I bought a old Super Nintendo this morning and I notice my new Super Nintendo has all yellow-ish color on the cover case and smell like Cigarette real bad. Is there any special products that I can use to dissolve those problem in matter of time ? It goes same for the Game case and game printer covers which I don't want to ruin those too.

I done the research but I can't find any accurate information for gaming category.

My girlfriend complain about this, She hate the smell of it and me too. We both are non smokers BTW.

    Thanks

a lot of the time the yellowing is down to the plastic reacting with UV light and not necessarily someone smoking around the console and as far as im aware you can't correct this without sanding and re-spraying the console

however the smell, well you could always strip it down and give the console (plastic bits only) a light bath with a weak solution of warm water and bleach/cleaning fluid, you could then scrub all areas clean and leave to dry, that should help remove the smell

As ridiculous as this might seem, scrub the plastic with smokers toothpaste using a soft toothbrush. That'll remove the smoke smell eventually if you do it a few times.

It won't help the yellowing, Retrobrite is the best way to deal with that.

Retr0brite to get rid of the yellowing. As to the smell, it's not a problem I've encountered, but I did see a video that recommended fabric softener sheets. Wrap it up in that and leave it for a few days.

I manage to get rid of the cigarette smell with malt vinegar which I strip off Snes case in bath tub. I'm happy with the result.

Cheers guys, thank for help. :triumphant:

I know it's an old thread, but for getting rids of pretty much any smell, get the console and place all the plastic parts in the dishwasher on the top rack with a lower heat setting. Not only stink-free, but clean as a whistle too!

Acetone will literally melt the ABS plastics that our consoles are made from.

Wasn't this covered (and shouldn't this be) in the Repair/Restoration etc. forum?

If you want to get smoke smell out of a building you air it out - probably the best thing to do with a console, too. Or preferably, only buy from smoke-free homes!

You can get rid of mouldy smells in books by putting them in a sealed container with baking soda - could be worth a try. I think it needs to be in there for a good month, though.

vinegar / lemon juice will help thorough clean especially the rubber parts like wires, as said air and clean out well, last resort, is to lick it all over the enzymes from your saliva will break down any remaining smell...

i made that last one up, not recommended but you could try

The most effective with regard to the smell of tobacco is a strong oxidant. Ozone is the strongest oxidant, leaving no odor, color stains and harmful to humans and animals of chemical compounds. With domestic air ozone generator can effectively deal with the smell.
