    Petrol and match?

How about just leaving them outside (under cover so don't get rained on) for a few days, that should help

compressed air should help a lot as its attic dust that is inside the machine

best airing them out, i hear cat litter and vinegar can help but not tried either or just stick them in a closet with nice smelling stuff for a while lol maybe it'll balance out.

Box wise and console wise baby wipes are amazing get the odourless version if you like. And it will not harm the card box and you will see the wipe go yellow then leave outside in a dry place.
console strip the shell off and mix bicarbonate of soda with water and lemon juice into a paste , cover the shell in it and leave if for a few minutes and the rinse and dry. Wort thing is cigarette smoke hate it.
hope this helps , also if you have sticky stuff off rom old stickers get autoglym tar and stain remover and work into the stick with a cotton bud then leave it and rub away.

I always air them out, under cover but outside. It can take a while but it's better than using and buying products.

I stuck my Dreamcast steering wheel controller box under an air con vent at work for a day or two.
It managed to clear the stench of tobacco from the cardboard fibres!

Baby wipes are an interesting one, might give that a go on some of my worse looking boxes see how they turn out! :)

Yeah honestly , when I get consoles at car boot sales and they are filthy baby wipes are amazing , they even get ink marks from the console case.

That's what I use too. Put the stuff in a bag with some dryer sheets for a while. Change the dryer sheets and do it again if the stuff still smells.
