    Hi all,

I am working on a project atm and am going to be needing to either just use composite or look into vga.

My console is a 1.4 or 1.5 xbox, all the guides I can find are a bit old (Plus Xbox-scene.com has died :..( )

Anyhoo thanks for any help guys

This might help. Has all modes explained and wiring diagram for all video modes out.

Regarding xbox version, according to this site, if there's no continuity between pin 2 and ground, then it's a 1.5. I recently checked a board with the Focus video chip and it had continuity between the 2 points, making it a 1.4.

You need a VGA modded BIOS. There are tools out to take a BIOS apart, apply the patch, and recompile it. You might also search around for a BIOS that's already been patched. http://www.eurasia.nu/ might have it.

What do VGA-patched BIOSes do when a VGA adapter is detected? Force 480p mode even when a game selects 480i?

i seem to remember something about VGA not working right with Xcalibur (v1.6) systems - is that true?

It fixes a green screen problem some games have. When VGA is used the console doesn't detect that. It is still in component mode and some games with have green tint on the screen.

As for not working on 1.6, I have no idea as I don't like messing with 1.6 consoles.

    What about component?

Better quality than composite, should be similar to vga out?

I don't see why you wouldn't just go with component to be honest.
