ever wanted to open a nintendo game or console with those nasty screws? well, all you need is: - a lighter - plastic ballpen - a gamebit screw of the size you want to work with now take the ballpen and heat the tip with the lighter (dont inhale, its toxic ;-)) and quickly press it onto the gamebit screw. let it rest there to cool down and shapeshift. now try to turn the screw. repeat until the screw turns easily. congratulations, you now have a gamebit screwdriver. pros: - easy - fast way to acquire a gamebit screwdriver. - cheap cons: - self-destructs after some time - smells
a loose screw would be optimal, but actually the first time i did this i pressed the ballpen into the hole of the cartridge. the downside is that its now a little bit dirty :-/ the holes in the n64 are wider and therefore easier to do without getting them dirty. so: if you are careful enough you can attempt this on an attached screw, too.
This is nice, but I will continue to save money so I can open my Cartridge. But for something I really don't care about then Sure! I will give this a try. Nice!!
If you care about getting the bolt out, but don't want to get it back in (or are going to replace it with another screw that has a standard head) then it's worth seeing if a small hex-driver does the job. A 5/32 inch hex driver, held perfectly level, is a good emergency substitute for the 4.5 mm gamebit.
gamebits are pretty cheap to buy now, around $5 off ebay. I remember when they were $15, but it was an actual screw, not just the bit with a hex end to attach to a blank screwdriver.
loose screw? for what? just push the melted pen's end into the hole where the screw is in....worked for me
MH is distinguishing between a bit that attaches to a universal driver shaft, and a dedicated driver that is all integrated and can't be disassembled. The dedicated driver also tends to have a more slender shaft that fits down into deep screw holes, like the one at the back of the Nomad.
There are various ways to open the Nintendo units. I found some hex screwdrivers in packs with small screwdrivers at discount stores, for about £1. These hex screwdrivers work fine, once you have dremelled down the sides to make them slimmer.
Its not worth pratting around making one just buy the god dam tool. With out the proper tool you can easily fuck the job up.
I used to do this for gamecube`s i`d mod. Works great ! although you have to have the right pen. the good ol fashion see through bics work best.
