    Hello everyone,

I just recently started to collect the old games/consoles from my childhood, and I have a binder full of burned PS1 games but no way to currently play them. I believe I have a few different options, and would like your opinions on the easiest and most accurate way to play them. Here are the hardware options I have:

    1. PSOne SCPH-101 with modchip, DOES NOT power on. This is what I was previously using to play my burned games. Im not sure what modchip is in the system. Tried to troubleshoot the problems, seems dead for good.

    2. PSX SCPH-7501, un-modded, laser does not work, powers on. This was my original system, has no modchip. When I was younger I had a cartridge for the parallel port that I used to play burned games (it was translucent blue if I recall, with a slider switch on the top or side). I connected the laser from the 101 into the 7501, and everything works fine. I ordered an extension ribbon cable so I could install the laser permanently into the 7501 if need be.

    3. PS2 with network adaptor/hdd and free mcboot. System runs fine. I set up the hdd and free mcboot like 5 years ago. I have honestly forgot everything about the process, I have no idea what version is installed or anything like that. I basically installed it because I was bored, booted it up once and then never touched it again haha.

Id like to play my current game catalogue, and any games/ISOs I acquire in the future. The options I am considering:

    1. Install a modchip into the 7501/101 laser hybrid. Preferably something into the parallel port, but I can solder if need be. Possibly resuse the modchip in the 101?
    2. Use free mcboot and ps2. I was briefly looking at this option, and the software set-up seems pretty involved. I am also confused as to how well this pseudo-emulation works?
    3. Any options you guys can provide

Thank you, sorry for the long post.

Emulators work when you have them setup to read from a disc drive (though if they're burned you likely had an ISO at some point). This applies to both PS1 and PS2. Just be sure to tweak settings accordingly.

Now as for hardware options, your PS2 is likely the best way to play them (assuming you wont invest in a modded PS3), but the issue now lies with region and your boot method. If you have a slim PS2 then you can use various methods to do the swap disc method (though damage is far easier as it's much quicker now) or get a game shark which usually allows for using imports on the system (IE not same region code) and burned games. If it's a Fat PS2 I suggest using a gameshark as well as that is by no means an easy task to getting it up and running via swap (unless the whole thing is just taken apart for some reason and even then that's hard as hell to swap).

In general, with FMCB you should be fine, if you cant use that, use gameshark, if you cant use that use emulation, if you can't use emulation then you may have to invest in some other methods.

Due to the PS2 console usually first failing reading PS2 CD games leads to concern of a whole binder of burned PS1 games putting a lot of wear on the laser working harder. I would go the PS1 console route, the later grey models have better laser tracking then earlier PS1s and a parallel port for a cheat cart. A PS1 mod chip is the best way to avoid the disc swap.

Put your original games into the working unmodded ps2 instead of your backups?

    Thanks for the answers

Supersega, does the gameshark method work with all games? Also, I plan to get my 7501 up and running, which has a parallel port. Is there any cheat cart/modchip that can take advantage of the parallel port and be a better solution then the disc method?

I only have a hand full of originals now, the majority of my games are just burned copies.

FYI, this isn't a piracy support forum. You should get acquainted with how this place works before posting such stuff.

    Oh really?

So, you've ONLY JUST started collecting originals... but just happen to have a folder full of pirated games? Or you only just started collecting originals, but have recently bought enough to fill a folder, which you actually filled with backups, then took them somewhere else... leaving the originals behind?

Wow... smells like a field of cows in this thread!

Best option - get someone at your previous location to send your originals to you. Or buy them again and have them sell the originals.
