Hi guys, Currently have a softmodded v1.1 xbox and after fiddling around too much, have got the nasty error 6. When originally softmodding the unit, had backed up copy of the eeprom. After numerous attempts with xbox v1.9 still cannot figure this out. * Have used the liveinfo tool, is the HDD password referred to as the "Online Key" OR ''Unique HDD Key''? * xboxhdm lists that the drive isn't lockable (The HDD is the original 8gb/10gb Seagate). *Have followed some tutorials such as this "http://www.thomasclulow.com/2009/07/13/rescuing-a-soft-modded-xbox-using-the-hot-swap-method/'', however the xbox hdd doesnt display in "Device Manager" and Xplorer360 displays "Could not find a FATX drive to open" *Is it possible to ftp to broken softmodded xbox to replace the files etc? Would rather restore my xbox than using the unit as a paperweight. I think the stuffup occurred when playing around with chimp on my chipped xbox and playing around with the lock/unlock options. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Lock another hard disk with your backed up EEPROM. It's probably more worth your trouble and upgrade in the process.
Thanks HeXen, am however superkeen on getting this sorted. Managed to get my pc to detect the HDD and am looking into xplorer360 etc. Need to find an xplorer360 exe compatible with windows xp! Any ideas? I have a hardmodded XBox, do you think I can fix the softmodded xbox hdd using modded xbox somehow? There has to be a way!
Does the hard disk get detected in the PC's BIOS? If not, then simply your motherboard doesn't like the hard disk. Sounds like the hard disk is locked to your modchip Xbox... LiveInfo will show the HDD Key.. Online Key is the ID of the Xbox when online. Name isn't Hexen by the way...
I once f'd my softmodded xbox and managed to boot from disc and fix. Also this Version of Xplorer360 worked for me under a XP VM so hopefully it will work for you
What exactly is the problem here? Did you lock your softmodded HDD on your chipped xbox using chimp? If so why not just unlock it and then lock it using your eeprom backup?
Yeah he stupidly used chimp on his hardmod system which locks the hard disk again. He can't use XBOXHDM since the disk says it's not lockable. The only solution would be a hotswap at this point, as he really wants the stock hard disk (for some reason).
There is a way to sort it out using ConfigMagic but it's been a while since I've done something like this. The basic procedure should be along the lines of copying the correct eeprom over to the HDD, install ConfigMagic, unlock the HDD using Chimp, load ConfigMagic and lock it using the correct eeprom. Or it can be done from Chimp if he has a Y splitter power cable.
Hi Banjo, So you just to ftp a copy of my softmodded eeprom to my chipped xbox and run config magic? I do have a y spltter and booted chimp, however when selecting the unlock slave drive option, it then asks to select where the eeprom is. Gives an option such as Motherboard, tmp folder etc, do you know where the temp folder would be? I could then ensure the backed up softmod eeprom is in this temp folder. Hex1gon, sorry, yes my pc bios detects my hdd. I do have a spare ide hdd and may just go down this road. You suggest to run xboxhdm and create hdd from scratch? What would be the best method? Thanks guys.
The tmp folder doesn't exist on the drive. It is in memory and visible from ftp as "When you launch "Chimp 2.6.18" (all the TELNET bugs have been corrected) you can connect to your xBox FTP with "File zilla" ... and it WORKS ! You must use the IP write on the start screen, and Login : root / Pass : xbox / Port : 21. Now you can copy in the directory "/ramdisk/var/tmp/" the "eeprom.bin" of the other xBox, to lock and unlock his HDD. You must restart xBox after every LOCK !" Written by darknior of emuxtras.
When it comes to unlocking your softmod HDD, it depends what you used to lock it in the first place. My assumption is you locked it using the first option (Motherboard?), so you could try unlocking it using that. Here's a quick tutorial on using ConfigMagic to lock the HDD using your backed up eeprom - http://www.biline.ca/xbox_uxe_hd2.htm There's probably others so have a google and do your research. It's not difficult once you know what you're doing.
Agree, why not modding to a larger hard drive? Keep the original drive put away as a way to get the Xbox back in case of issues.
Hey All, Back in the glory days of the xbox I used configmagic all the time works like a charm. I re-flashed my modded xbox so much that i don´t know witch epprom is the original, I need to check the serial if I want to flash the original. My method is like this No pc required only one straight-through cable between the 2 xbox´s Do a softmod using the normal method's to get the epprom and backup C and E. If you have the Target EEPROM.bin cfg txt ftp target epprom into configmagic folder on the modded xbox rename to correct file name EEPROM.bin/.TXT/CFG (Txt and cfg is not need but i like to keep them together) Run configmagic load Epprom form bin check if the info is correct then flash the modded xbox with the epprom of the target xbox. Then you can access the hdd if you like or boot a installer DVD so you have FTP access to the hdd. Most of the times people wanted a hdd upgrade so i just get a fresh hdd putt it in the modded xbox copy over the needed files. Run configmagic again to lock the new drive, turn off the modded xbox swapt out the original hdd and boot up using the new hard drive. If your lucky and the drive is locked using configmagic the Master PAss is : "TEAMASSEMBLY" If You want to start over you can get a fresh C and E drive if you look on some retro site hint hint. Then you can do a fresh softmod. hope this helps.
