Hey guys thought I'd update everyone on my progress with the Retron 5. Last night I was able to get root access on the Retron 5 and thought I'd share it. Here's a more detailed how to: 1. Go to the video link, there's a download for a zip file called Retron5Root, download it... 2. Get a img to SD(usb) converter anythings fine, I think Macs can use Disk utility to restore it if you want to do it that way. 3. Now open the folder in the Retron5Root archive and copy the update.img file to the SD card. This will overwrite a file. 4. Put your SD Card that you just prepared into your Retron 5. 5. A recovery like menu will show up (you probably never seen it before) use a controller to select the second option ("Update rkimage from external storage"). 6. Wait for it to complete 7.Done! You can now use a micro usb cord to connect ur pc to your retron 5(using the wireless controller recharge port found on the back of the console). Connecting with ADB 8. Open a CMD prompt and type "adb devices" -If you get somthing about adb being an unrecognized program then install the Android SDK and then return here. -If you the command returns a device name then continue on. 9. Now, type "adb shell" -Note if multiple are listed try typing "adb -s DEVICENAME shell", this lets you connect to a device by name if needed. 10. Voila, if you see a '#' then your rooted and can do whatever you want Have fun!
We can probably utilize this and add improved emulator cores and possibly consoles that the Retron5 can't do (TG16, Neo-Geo)!
