How to tell difference in Game Gear game?

Sonic the Hedgehog for Game Gear appears to be released in 2 different versions. Checking the Game Genie code the one version I would like is the first one with working code for stop timer and rings. The other version doesn't have such code.

Is there a way to tell them apart without having to test every one and trying the codes?

 

i believe you can test them using fusion emulator

 

I think wilykat is talking about actual Sonic 1 game gear cartridges with this thread, not a rom version.

Bah! I doubt anyone's going to let me open a few Game Gear games just to look for certain cart.

 

maybe something like this can be used to dump rom and compare with each other without opening carts, i couldnt find anything other than retrode that can read gamegear carts without opening them and unfortunately i think they are not produced yet. is there anything such as gameger cart reader?

 

Don't any of the game genie emulators have a code search function? You could make a code for the other revision
