I'm looking to upgrade my Xbox's hard drive. Is there a way I can tell if it is lockable or not? I do not own a working computer with IDE support, however, I do own several IDE Hard drives.

Like my friend Toxic says, go with a decent modchip..that way you can upgrade painlessly. Some boxes (v1.4 especially) don't support CHIMP and if you don't want to go through the pain of using XBHDM (if you find access to a PC with IDE support,) a modchip like a Xenium or SmartXX is the best bet. Obviously you could go with TSOP so you don't have to lock your drive, but if your box doesn't support CHIMP there is no option but using the dreaded XBHDM on a PC with IDE. Good luck!

You can tell by UnleashX in the menu if it supports locking or not (that's with a modchip). It can be a bit hit and miss though.

    This list is great IMO.

According to that chart, 77% of the drives submitted were lockable. I've used several different drives and they all worked.
