I just want to get a sense of the conventional wisdom here... How would _you_ ship a PCI card to someone ? Would you put it in a proper static bag and seal it shut ? Or would you wrap it up in a plastic grocery bag and throw it in with some wadded up newspaper ? Very curious to know what folks think.
I wouldn't wrap it in a static bag Antistatic bag, then some padding then in a box? Failng that I'd try to do the best I could with what I've got.
Pretty much what LeGIt said, stick it inside an anti-static bag and put a bunch of padding inside the box assuming nobody will stomp it flat. Usually I've got some sort of foam rubber inserts in the box to cover both the top and bottom of the card.
An anti-static bag is something that I wouldn't have lying around the house. So I would wrap it with newspaper/bubble wrap myself.
Common sense is all you need but as we know thanks to the net, the world is 50% populated by dumb fucks. That's not having a go at anyone here though. OK, to send a PCB if you don't have antistatic bags should be like his. Wrap it in paper since that's antistatic, then bubble wrap it well with a few layers so it's nice and padded. Stick it in a box and make sure it doesn't rattle about. Simple really. A jiffy bag / padded envelope is not a good idea because the capacitors could get bent or worse still, snap off. Yakumo
My brother had a 3DFX Voodoo 5 4500 AGP shipped to him with an inductor whose base had snapped in half and was bent over. Thankfully inductors work fine regardless of the base and orientation of the part...
Liquidise it and send it as a delicious microchip yoghurt. Anyway I've always sent them in anti-static bags in a padded envelope. Never had any problems but I guess I've been lucky.
