I recently got a Sega naomi 2 with original psu, capcom i/o and most cables how would I get it running with controls?
First, original PSU usually don't plug directly to a wall plug. So you might have some work to do there. Then, since you don't have a cab and don't have controls, it means you don't use a supergun. So the Capcom I/O is useless to you. (Although, if you have the long legs that came with it, I either buy the legs of the whole Capcom I/O from you). So, you have to: 1. Make sure your original PSU can be powered properly (You can cut the two cable in the back of it and solder them to an electric plug. Beware, it's 110V only! 2. Connect your Naomi to a VGA monitor and connect the two sound plugs to the same monitor or AMP or whatever. 3. Hack some Dreamcast pads to connect them to the Naomi:
Running a NAOMI without a I/O board will result in an error, in other words, connecting Dreamcast controllers directly to the mainboard won't be to much use. Basically what you need to do is get/make an arcade stick and wire it up for connecting to the jamma connector and kick-harness of the I/O.
The games that support the Dreamcast controller (and there only are a few) will only work if the Naomi 2 is running Japanese bios (with the exception of Gundam vs Zeon, Lupin Typing and Typing of the dead (last two being keyboard only) which support the dc controller port in usa bios). Of the games I own the following support the dreamcast controller: Marvel Vs Capcom 2, Gunspike, Capcom vs SNK Millennium Fight 2000 Pro, Moero! Justice Gakuen and Mobile Suit Gundam The Earth Federation vs The Principality of Zeon. That isn't too many considering I (currently) own 23 Naomi/Naomi 2 games. Your either going to want to setup a Jamma to JVS io (either sega or Capcom) or a Sega JVS I/o. If you pick one of the Jamma to Jvs I/o boards you will need a jamma harness that can be wired to something like a neo geo controller. Of course as mentioned above the io needs to be powered either from the jamma harness or connecting it to the Naomi or its power supply. I can speak from experience, this is one of those things that seams hard to do at first but once you have it hooked up you will have no problems playing games. I recently set my controller extension cable up with alligator clips so I can easily remap controls to different buttons by taking a clip off of a jamma harness contact and putting it on another.
If I were to use this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sega-World-...494?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19f77ec036 Would the controls work? And Does the sega V2 i/o need a seperate power supply?
This is an analog control panel, the majority of Naomi games don't support analog controls. Also for analog controls you will need another I/O, analog isn't supported by the Capcom I/O.
If you live in the US, the NAOMI 2 can plug directly into USA Power outlets. This isn't recommended but it works. I recommend that you put a noise filter between the NAOMI 2 PSU and your USA Power outlet. NAOMI 2 PSU is 110V but have a tolerance range that will allow you to plug it in directly to your outlet. Again, not recommended. [120V US] <=> [Noise filter of at least 10A-15A] <=> [NAOMI 2 ACN/ACL connections]. Japanese Power outlets are 100V and do not use Ground connections so the Ground connection on a US outlet will not be connected.
Check your power supply, unlike pc power supplys arcade ones can only accept a very limited voltage range. If it only likes say 100-120 you will have to use a stepdown. However if its like some of them that can take 100-240 then you are all set. If you are unsure upload a picture of the label on the psu.
