Just curious what other people's opinions are. How would you rank the different Nintendo handhelds based on the software library they had available and why do you put them in that order? Is the worse one on your list there because it wasn't as good as others or because it had a bad library?

Note Virtual Boy & 3DS do not count (3DS because it's still far to new, don't be a dick, VB since it wasn't so much a handheld and if left will just always end up last).

    My Opinoin

    1) Gameboy Advance (GBA)
    2) DS
    3) Gameboy (DMG)
    4) Gameboy Color (GBC)

Why that order? Looking through the different libraries recently. I kind of feel the GBA was the best with it's rather large collection of great platformers and it being the birth place of some great nintendo games like WarioWare & Rhythm Tengoku/Rythm Heaven. DS follows with a pretty solid collection of 3rd party games. I put GB above GBC because I feel t here was far more gems on GB then GBC (I really struggle to come up with a strong list of good GBC games that would out number the many good GB games I like). Plus going though some recent GB/GBC games I got, GBC seem to be at the point when games use to shove 10 mins of text at you with out letting you skip any of it. Where many GB games where boot and play instantly. =/

GBA and DS are indeed the most awesome libraries.

My list would be prett much the same as yours. Except that, I think, the DS is technically a superior console (in terms of library) because it can have both the library of GBA and DS games.

I never had a GBA, but thanks to the DS, I had both libraries at my disposition, and it was fucking fantastic.

I agree with you about the GB/GBC, but I prefer the DS to the GBA.

For some reason I never really liked the GBA as much as the DS, even though it had some great games. Maybe it was the screen (I had the original purple GBA), the odd shape, the tiny buttons (the DS is guilty of that too), but regardless, it's a great little portable.

    1. DS
    2. GBA
    3. GB
    4. GBC

Waaaay too many ports and rehashes on GBA though, I swear that at least half of the games Nintendo released on GBA were rehashed NES and SNES games. The GBC doesn't stand a chance thanks to its horribly outdated hardware at release.

But we're kind of rating the libraries them self and not the system. So I don't think it's far to count the GBA library towards the DS.

    Why GBC first?

    GBA
    GB
    DS
    GBC

But I think that they're all actually pretty close to one another.

I think it's hard to compare unless you go by sales, and by sales I believe GB is still king, or DS. Not sure.
