Are there any easy programs out there that will allow me to do this ?
I'm trying to convert my entire naruto colection of 123 eps to dvd so i can watch them on my 28" tv instead of my 19" monitor.
What programs do you use and how much can you fit onto a single dvd ?

    Your reccomendations please

Nero 6 with Nero Vision Express 2 and Nero Recode (more audio compression options).

You can get about 2 hours on a single DVD, more if you are willing to have it look like ass.

Or even better, buy an XBOX and mod it into a media centre, far more useable than a DivX DVD player... and about the same price.

Haven't done this in a while, but when I did Nero 6's dvd creator thing was new and never worked properly (audio stream glitches, corrupted video etc). The menu maker option was nice, mind.

Instead I went for the quick and dirty method: tmpeg motion encode to mpeg2 file, which took a quarter of the time Nero did, then burned all the mpeg2's I'd made onto a data DVD. All recent DVD players are able to read data dvd's, so it's only the menu that looks ugly.

depents on how much work you want to stick into the whole process
for best quality but lot of work i would convert the divx episodes with tmpeg to mpg2 and then create a menue for the dvd with dvdlab

both tools should be out as trial version and dont cost so much at all

like tachi said, is better just to get an xbox and mod it, or get some encoding tools and encode the m2v and the ac3 separetly mmm preferably leaving it ntsc because is ntsc... and mmm for menus you can use dvdlab, remember to do atleast 2 passes so you can squeeze atleast 10 eps ;)

Yeah Nero 6 (full version mind with Nero Vision Express!) will convert .avi's straight into DVD format, and you can even stick gaudy menu's and crap like that in there if you really must.

I do it a couple of times a week... with... you know... films I legally own and want to back up onto DVD's with menu's and stuff... *cough*

If you don't do the menus, will it automatically have chapter breaks? My sister leaves in Eastern Europe, where they've inherited the Japanese system of syndicating only the crappiest of TV shows. I send her stuff, but they only have a laptop. I'm sure they'd much prefer straight-up DVD.

I'd use TMPGEnc too and maybe GraphEdit + Nero.

I think you can do that yeah, but as a menu is only about 300MB, you may as well stick it in there, what benefit you may get in the audio/video compression for such a small amount is negligible.

Same here. It cuts down on the time it takes to convert 700mbs of divx to like a 2gig mpeg2 file and vice-versa. I don't like waiting 2 hours.

So doe Nero fix any compression issues? I remember some DVD-maker soft I downloaded and tried bitched saying the bitrate was too high for DVD (so why not change it?). I promptly deleted it. I've got a modded Xbox to watch stuff I don't watch on the TV, but I'm sending stuff to a non tech-savvy missionary in Europe. :)

Hmm, I would've said that encoding a video from one standard to the other would take hours. There's no "easy" solution if your idea of easy is hit burn.

    Well, I lie.

Easy solution - get divx hardware player (e.g. kiss dvd player) and a dvd recorder (set-top style). Link together with SCART, press play on divx and record on dvd - takes as long as it takes to play ;)

Still... if you do that, you might as well just watch the divx disc on the kiss and not bother with the recorder!!

*edit* Gaijin has it - xbox!!! Evolution-X, decent media player, shove a bigger hard drive in, and transfer across to the Xbox! You could also burn and watch like that, if you want.

Again-- my sister is a missionary. Seeing as her pay comes 100% from begging for money, that's the last solution.
