Actraiser 2 has low volume, but the recordings we provide are FLACS so you can open them in audacity and amplify them quite a bit. Actually audacity has amplify with clipping protection, the way ti go to add volume. And yes actraiser was one of the quietest games recorded. Better recording low then distort the sound imho.
in before teh lock! :smile-new: registered! (same id) not sure what i can contribute, and upload requests won't come from me. (never made one, not starting now) i'll observe and partake in discussions when/IF applicable. i play game ST's (game ST remixes even) more than commercial = 'INDY'/mainstream music. curious to see what comes of this, all the best with the project. :wink-new:
Yes, better too low than distort, agreed. When I record I try get close to peak but never past. Then I use ''normalize''. I wrote a recording methodology for comparative recordings. I used it on project where comparing subtleties in various sources was the goal. But I pretty much use this on all the recordings I make. https://sites.google.com/site/soundcardcomparison/home/our-standard-recording-method
Some conversions, others patched back into the game (with sound effect audio blanked) and then recorded as some of the ADX files have odd loop times on some of the files used in-game. I have a few unreleased tracks and there's also oddly enough a few different versions of tracks that weren't released. For whatever reason, the European releases of CODE: Veronica have slightly different music for a couple of the cutscenes, for instance the "Murderous Eyes" track is different to both the Japanese, American releases which is what was on the soundtrack. Whatever music included that is on the soundtrack releases is different (have checked visually and by ear against rips from the Japanese, American and my own soundtrack copies that there are some slight differences for some and very noticeable differences for some other tracks) to the soundtrack versions, any songs that are the exact same as the soundtrack versions have been excluded to avoid any possible issues with Capcom still retailing the soundtrack. Overall, the music included in this has come from: CV - Trial Edition, the original Dreamcast release, CVX European and Gun Survivor 2.
For Yakumo's joy (he requested it) we're presenting; another wonderful soundtrack composed by Chris Hulsbeck! As always only on Hrost Project!
Nintendo was always keen to release OSTs but the Majora's Mask OST I got from a Nintendo Power resubscription faded the tracks which annoyed the piss out of me as a kid.
When I get some free time, I'll record as many Dark Cloud tracks as I can. The OST has music that is at a different pitch or misses a couple tracks altogether. EDIT: Or I'll just record the ones that are different to/missing from the OST. Whatever works ^.^
