It seems the Japanese whaling consortium os backing down.

This is a good step to breaking bad habits based on politics and
subsidies. Whale is way too high in mercury to really be a decent food.

The Japanese should really be focusing on saving the maguro, or else pretty soon there won't be any left to eat. I am suprised how unconcerned they are about that....

If they are so high in mercury, then why aren't they spazzing out or going thru the common side effects of mercury poisoning??

Well then Star Trek IV won't ever be made because of this then!

Everyone knows it was a documentary....

Maguro is brought up way more than whale, but of course like every problem in Japan it's not really addressed. So stupid. Coincidentally the whole "no humpback slaughtering" thing I saw was on CNN... not Japanese news. They will still hunt other types of whales, FYI.

nooo..don't say such terrible things. it's the only star trek which is really fun to watch and is also a superb time waster (watch it almost twice a year).

btw: maguro is way too high in mercury as well. no good for moms and kids.

Apparently they were 'only' going to kill 1000 of them.

    Sheesh.

Not to step on any toes at all, but fuck all countries who slaughter whales. And that includes my country allowing the countries to kill whales. Now I haven´t offended any country in particular but every country of those who kill whales because of socalled "food". And then again I am not talking about native people who shoots a whale , because they really want to eat it. I am talking about countries like Iceland that murders thousands of Pilot Whales every year, "just because it is tradition". And other countries in that category. So go figure how I am about Japan killing the humback whales. And other giant mamals. in my eyes the humback whale is one of the most beautiful whales, among all the other whales.

While I don't agree with it in the least (and plenty of Japanese don't either) there are far worse things they could be doing... like invading and pillaging other countries.

Someday the seas will be empty and the Japanese will know what they have done to the oceans.
