Ok, Finally got the right boot rom in my dev system, but when I hook it up to a VGA monitor I get an error HV Frequency out of Range on the monitor screen. Anyone know what I need to do now? Thanks in advance. Jason Forgot to mention, composite isn't working either, just tons of lines across the screen....
Solved my own problem, but still my boot rom is the wrong version. The guy I bought the dev kit from is sending me SDK7, hopefully that'll solve my problem!
Which devbox version do you have?I have post R8 sdks so i think i can't help much... Anyway,if you get hold of pre R8 sdks, please drop me a line
I have the S516 box. Not sure if R8 will work on it or not, but he told me the R7's would. However, judging from my problem being the boot rom, Assembler has enlightened me to the fact that I may need some repairs. Ugh! Can anyone point me to the flash rom inside the DC Dev box? I can yank it and replace it easily if I know which one it is.... I'll let you know when the R7 arrives.
R5 was introduced when the Series 5 devkits were available and Set5.23 was already unsupported from R7...So there is a possibility you will need R5 or R6... As for the flash rom , there is a big rom on teh mainboard,it usually has the sticker "Set5 Checker" and contains the code for the self tests...I think it contains the boot rom as well...
Well, I tore apart my "extra" unit last night and found the big EEprom. I assumed it was just the self-test, but I popped it out regardless and then ran DBFlash. It did the same thing when I tried to flash the boot rom and timed out after the flash was "done". I was hoping it would say something like, "No Boot Rom found" or something along those lines. Can anyone confirm that is where the boot rom is stored? My other system has a boot rom of 1.001 in it, but I'm afraid that is the wrong one because again, it's not working. I'll try popping that ROM tonight and see if DBFlash says 0.00 for the boot rom, at least that will narrow down where it is. Does anyone have a dump of the entire boot rom? I could easily replace this but I need a working original. I did move the "single" jumper (can't remember the number) towards the back and the system ran the self-test. I decided to start experimenting with the jumpers. It would be nice if we had schematics or some jumper documentation on this bad boy. Not much info on the internet. More here than anywhere else, which isn't surprising....Everything went through fine on the self test (including the flash boot) except the audio which errored due to no midi patch cable (or so I understand from reading). In reading through the docs, it says not to flash your boot rom without talking to Sega Dev Support. My question is, does anyone here know if there is something "special" you have to do in order to flash the boot rom other than letting DBFlash do its thing? LeGit, do you know what version the R4 boot rom is? I'm trying to figure out which version 1.001 is on my other system. If it's the right one, then I'm really at a loss..... I appreciate the help. Jason
the R4 boot rom is for the Set4 devbox which is vastly different and inferior to the Set5xx ones... As for the boot rom location, the only chips thaatlook flaashable are two on the DA that contain the DA aand GDM bios and then it's the big one on the mainboard....
Well, i popped the Eeprom from the system that actually recognizes the boot rom. It still is saying 1.001 is in there. I even replaced it with the one from the system that had 0.00 as the boot rom and it still says 1.001 so by deductive reasoning the boot rom is somewhere else. Ugh.... I've decided a 5.24 is in order, I've had it with this thing (for now)...... I'll give it a go with the SDK7 and let ya'll know if it works.... I'm guess with no responses that there's nothing "special" I need to do in order to reflash the boot rom....
well,if you have a 5.24 and you want to dev there is no reason to fiddle with anything else....And there are way more updated sdks than r7...try to get r10 or r11...
I bit the bullet this morning and won a system from overseas. Shipping is a bear, but I want a 5.24, no reason to be working on this old setup..... Thanks for the help V! Jason
