Now that the oil barrel may hit the $105 price, Im definitely buyin one of these.

The ENV (or "envy") motorcycle is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell , and can go at 80Km/H (50mph) with a range of 160Km (100miles). Filling tank with compressed hydrogen would only cost you around 25 cents if you get the hydrogen by yourself or 4 bucks if you buy the fuel.

The cool part is that the fuel cell can be dettached from the main unit and used as an external generator. Ir produces around 1Kw, enough to power a house. I can see LAN parties running on this things :smt042

Now, if this bike goes for 8K and not 6K, then it wouldnt be a "must". Plus, the ethanol/biodiesel transformer should be free with the purchase of the bike, since compressed hydrogen isnt something that grows on trees

by those figures it would almost be pointless to buy one for me..I get 30 mpg in my car(as most of my driving is Freeway/interstate) and at 2.29$ per gallon I would save 434.00$ over the course of a year (12000 miles) Not worth me spending 6000.00 on a bike that would take me 13.8 years to make up the savings in fuel....and I would prob go crazy driving 50 miles per hour.

Thats why i said "if oil hits 105$"

Here I can get a 60cc Yamaha Bike for less than half the ENV price :smt023

Anyways, it should do the fuel convertion by itself. You could power it with alcohol :smt030

oh gotcha....I like hybrids quite a bit...you get good ol' gas powered combustion acceleration and then fuel saving hybrid coasting ability..

Na, hybrids are more hype that a real solution. In fact, the only hybrid that is worth to buy [in my opinion] is the honda accord.

If you have the money (and that car goes for more that 30K) buy a BMW 3series with a diesel engine. Now thats cheap, and classy :-D

Why do vehicles that help the environment look ugly as shit? Why can't they make a Camaro Z28 still sound like a V8monster but give you 40mpg or runs off electricity?

Because Electric cars have a piss poor power/weight ratio :p A bike however, could hold the same engine but because of the significant reduction in weight (atleast 800kg lighterminimum, 1.8 metric tonnes compared to a larger car) and the battery can just sit where the fuel tank was anyway. Cars would also need bigger batteries too because it would require more juice to get moving which also adds more weight. There is a 500bhp electric motor which only weighs 67kg which is going to find it's way into a lot of new bikes and to put it this way it will make the bike a hell of a lot faster than anything on the tracks today. An 11kW electric bike has been seen many times giving 33kW combustion bikes a run for their money :D

I never liked the idea of using hydrogen as a fuel though - we're just changing 1 problem for another. Give it x amount of years and we will be struggling for water or the vapour will also have a greenhouse effect =/ I wonder how it would affect the humidity/rain too -_- IIRC actually refining the hydrogen also gives off CO2 too?

Dude, how can we struggle for water when the fuel cell only emits water and heat? And greenhouse effect? this is not a matter of heat, but of chemicals that go to the atmosphere and absorb the suns radiation, thus heating the planet.

And to extract hydrogen from water you need the same [or more] amount of energy that youll get when the fuelcell mix it with the oxigen. In other words, you end where you started.

The best way to get hydrogen is from ethanol or biodisel. The first is just a type of alcohol and you can make it with corn. The second is made from sunflower oil, so there should be plenty of it.

Anyways, i heard some space probes got a nuclear battery. What about a car running from plutonium? After all, you are goin to get a tumor someday :smt082
