I have in my possession the title to a beat up 1998 Buick Century Limited. I don't have a license and I don't want to drive. My Grandma convinced me to put the car in my name because my uncle has a crappy driving record and currently has a suspended license. Sadly he also has the keys. Last week I took the tags back because they were dead and I heard from people it's like $40 a day in fines. My uncle never paid the insurance on the car because now i'm getting collections letters for MVA Insurance Default. So I was thinking of either selling it, giving it to charity, or scrapping it. Since I don't know how to do options one or two i'm thinking i'll tow it to a junk yard and hope for the best. The car does run though. My Grandma and uncle seem to think they can get $2500 for it and I want these bills off me. What do you think I should do? This is one of the only communities I like or I would try a car forum.
Buick Century Limited says it all. Load of crap but there will always be someone who will want a cheap car. You won't get 2500 USD for it that's for sure. If you want to get rid of it fast with no comeback then take it to a breakers yard. They will pay you for various parts of the car which they will re-sell. A junk yard will just compact it in to a block so of course they won't give you as much money. Yakumo
I just need $358 for the insurance default, at least $350 for another laptop, and to replace Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2. So if I can get like $1000 I will have broken even from when my uncle threw a tantrum fiending for a drug that rhymes with rack... I think he sold my stuff for a fix...! I'm checking Autotrader and local junkyards. Since Craigslist might be full of scammers. Everyones heard the stories i'm sure. Is a breaker just a different kind of junk dealer or is the breaker a part of the normal junk process? I don't know if I should look for them seperately. Thanks!
Just sell it on Craigslist, yeah there are scammers, just accept nothing but cash in hand for it and you will be fine And get your uncle some help, make him check into rehab! If it is a running car, no point in getting it towed, junked or broken...
Yeah, cars hold their value much better in the USA. You should be able to get something for it. What are other similar vehicles selling for around your area? Sell it for a few hundred cheaper for a quick sale.
Run around to local dealers first. What is the Red Book/Blue book value of the car? Is it bluebook in the US?
@Assembler I know now... What can I say I trusted my family. I'll have to go back and check the mileage but the bluebook value at 119,000 miles in fair condition was $2530. I can go for that! A cool $2000. All I need is the car and the title right? Now I just need a replacement key and i'm good to go. @hexigon Yep US goes by Kelly Bluebook @crissybwoy I tried telling his mom but she likes believing he's fine. In fact i've seen the scam he uses to get money out of her. It still works so far! You know being a computer/console geek really gets me nowhere when it comes to automobiles.
