I am going to be a game tester * edit- I got the job I got an interview to be a game tester at THQ here in Calabasas. The interview went great. By the end I was chatting with the guy about classic game systems. I think I got it, I'm so totally stoked. I will keep you all updated, sneak some pics of the office, etc.
Well done - particularly since THQ seem to be publishing some sega games at the moment (and astro boy - omega factor which has treasures logo on the back) Just wish i had it...
Yeah, sounds interesting! Good luck on that, hope you get it! The QA side of the industry certainly seems interesting - and much more involved than people imagine. Should be fun!
lucky bastard! inform use about any developements! i'm going to send my CV to a video game shop, not as exicting as your place, but it's still kinda linked by the same hobbie. good luck!
I was going to say, wasn't Astro Boy a Sega publication? Maybe Sega handed it off to THQ in Europe? Back on topic, congratualtions on the interview, and here's hoping you have the spot nailed! :-D
I GOT IT! I GOT THE JOB! BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA! I can finally quit fucking Starbucks. God damn I'm happy. Well, not yet. I got the call back, so I definetly got in the door. Now what happens is that there's a week long training course, at the end of which you're tested. Then, if you pass the test, you've got the job. So, I'm just going to work my ass off to pass the test. From speaking to the other people there they say it's just a lot of paperwork, and any "computer person" (*ahem*) should pass it easily. Still a little nervous though. Sorry to be all gloaty/happy and stuff, it's just that I've been working at the same fucking stupid ass job for six years now, and haven't had an interview in just as long, so the fact that it's something cool and pays as much has me biting my own penis with excitement.
Dude... there's nothing like switching jobs. It's even more refreshing that switching hands you masturbate with. Congrats!

I'm sure a lot of us here wish we were in similar situations where we could finally be free of our current schools/jobs; nice to see that someone has done it! Good luck with the test. As of now, I shall be living vicariously through you.
Congrats man, that's a helluva change. Just changed jobs myself (albeit not to anything game related), it rules.
quick, go play enter the matrix to practice you before your bug finding test! it's an easy one. :smt043
Prepare to be OWNED!!! Seriously have fun and make the best of it. I know I wanted to get a job as a tester after highschool but I needed to have reliable transportation (in other words a car). I spoke to people who have had jobs as testers and they said it was pretty stressful after a few weeks, especially as they got close to deadlines. Are you getting paid by the hour? Chances are thats a yes since that position is considered a very low position. But hey at least you can now call your self a developer!! You should be elligible for employee discounts and free soda. As for my job. We have a new manager and they are going to cut hours which is something that I can't have done but have no power in stopping it since business has been slow. So, hopefully, my uncle talked to his friend in seeing if I can get a job at his computer store putting together PCs and setting them up for their clients. Hopefully it pays more since its a local business and they are quite popular, locally, and I'll get some good hours as well as access to hardware at wholesale price (250gig Maxtor HDD for $120).
Slavery, that may be true. But anything is better than fucking Starbucks by this point. I am so sick of coffee... Anyway, it's confirmed, I start next monday (March 14th.) So wish me luck guys.
