I can't remember a summer this packed with games.

I picked up DOOM.

I need to pick up Doom.

Overwatch also comes out pretty soon. Too many games to play. Not enough time to invest in all of them.

I've been talking to some friends about how I'm at a sort of gaming crossroads. I've been playing mostly just 1 or 2 games at a time. I play Halo 5 regularly throughout the week, and if my friends aren't online, i work on my back log (finished Diablo 3 last week and wrapped up Quantum Break today). The problem comes with me moving to a new area where there's a large Smash Bros scene and brother has been wanting me to get back into the game. How am I supposed to balance getting good at Smash Bros, while maintaining my Halo 5 skills to be competitive online, while working on the back log?? It's too much!

I am very thankful that the above is even an issue for me honestly. Gotta remember to not take it for granted.

 

Dragon Quest Heroes 2 comes out in like, 5 days in Japan. I've ordered it. Won't get it for about 2 weeks though.

 

I still have much to do in the first Dragon Quest Heroes, and it's a pretty text heavy game for somethng that's just hack n slash.

 

Anybody who hasn't picked up DOOM yet, do so immediately. Great game. Surpassed my expectations and I've had many over the course of 7-8 years waiting for a new game.

 

DOOM is amazing, I'm glad I picked it up and didn't wait. The music alone sounds like a lost NIN Album from the Broken/Downward Spiral/Fragile Era.
There are times I get stuck and have no idea where to go but then it picks back up. OH yes and can't forget all the secrets

Will Cuphead be released this summer?! One can only hope...

 

Cuphead is one of the reasons I'm getting an XBONE Slim.

I'm almost done with DOOM, I'm a bit overwhelmed as to what to pick up next. TMNT: Mutants in Manhatten, Valkyria Chronicles remastered, wait awhile and get Star Ocean 5 (which might not even be that good who knows) I'm torn.

 

Seems like you're playing DOOM on Hurt Me Plenty. Maybe play through it again on Ultra Violence?

 

I'm going to go back and get all the collectables I missed. The more powered up I get through Argent Cells the easier the game gets.

 

Xenoverse 2 got announce, though it isn't coming out this summer. (we have also had a great deal of announcements lately)

 

I Swear Dragon Ball Super only exists to give more characters to Dragon Ball games. The Universe 6 vs 7 Arc...excuse to add 5 new characters to future games.

 

Not to derail, but super is having more of a plot hole problem then gt ever did, and the current arc with the 12 universes vs each other sucks. Plus, super shenron glowed too much and was so poorly unveiled, it was asif they hired a 13 year old from deviant art to draw the last few minutes of that episode.

 

Like I said, I think it only exists to add new characters to games. It's still better than GT. Watch GT end up being it's own universe in Xenoverse 2/future Super Arcs

 

The first post didn't mention that the new Deus Ex comes out in August! Really glaring omission.

 

I must be getting really old or getting away from video game market..
From that list I only want to play Doom.

I've just finished uncharted 4 and I was mehh..

Maybe mirror's edge. I like fast games that avoid me from thinking anything else.

 

I reach the second boss in Doom...go to restart the fight what do I do instead? RESTART MISSION.
That's enough DOOM for now, I'm gonna get something else for the time being, I just have no idea what.

 

As I worked in a video game shop, I can tell you that EVERY Summer had at least 12 releases.

The problem with your list is that Doom, Valkyria, Project Cars and TMNT are out already, Guilty Gear is an arcade port from last year and out now / within 2 weeks (before Summer), Mirror's Edge is also out in a couple of weeks and Star Ocean is out (in Japan anyway - I'll give you it as an English language Summer release). That's half your games gone. Not such an impressive list now, is it? So you're back to a dry Summer.

Actually, the problem I have with your list is that it illustrates the direction of the games industry now, and why I couldn't give two shits. This is what I see when I look at such a list:

Yup, what we have is a bunch of unimaginative sequels or rehashes of existing games, yet another driving game, a kinda Mega Man clone and ONE novel idea. Well, I've been fairly out of the loop - is it a novel idea, or not?

The whole industry seems so stale now. It was interesting reading the Crash Bandicoot developers' notes posted recently. They talk about creating one of the first 3D games, inventing a mascot for a new console that needs to be cool and different, overcoming the technical challenges of the console and making the game FUN. Nowadays, it seems you have all the RAM and CPU power you could possibly want... so what do you do? Oh, make Call of Duty 50, but make it look nicer, of course!

 

I guess we needed a reminder that Assembler is still the grumpy old man forum.
WHO CARES if a game is a sequel or not if the games are good? Almost every game listed is going to be good. Only one that's iffy is TMNT but that's based on unreliable reviewers.
