No biggie, no hoohah, and no fanfare! I just wanted to mark the event somehow so I'm posting the fact that I passed my final exam. The last few weeks have been really stressful and I've not been around much because I needed to concentrate on preparation. So, it's official, my tutor has informed me that I passed with a credit, which is precisely what I was looking for. The additional effort paid off! I'm now an official College Tutor, but before I get a swollen head I remind myself of the comment 'Those who CAN'T, teach!' ;-) Just enrolled and been accepted for an MCDST (Microsoft) course to add to the pile of Microsoft certificates I have achieved already. Also just volunteered to work part-time for an organisation providing I.T. drop in centers for people with learning difficulties or long term unemployed. Onwards and upwards!
Nice one Parris congrats, i see your doing or going to do MCDST. I did an MCDST course last year which i must say was actually very enjoyable and for me at least not that hard.
That sounds great, good to see there still are nice people like you helping others by sharing knowledge and spreading wisdom. Congratulations Parris!
Yeah to be a certified, professional tutor you need to teach for a minimum of 2 years (as an assistant, I have 1 year of formal tutoring, but my training whilst working was also taken into consideration), pass whatever you are going to teach (i.e. you cannot teach Microsoft Specialist subjects without sitting and passing them), plus you must sit CIEH, Health & Safety, First Aid certification and finally PTL & DTL certification. I also have French, which I have been working on for several years and polishing for the last 6 months (Not really formally used my French since University). With all that you are considered 'approved' and 'professional'. There are a few people tutoring without certification or approval, but they may find themselves unable to continue very shortly as the PTL, H&S and First Aid certification is compulsory. I've been teaching Basic I.T., Microsoft Specialist courses in Office software. With this approval I can now just go off pass whatever courses I want (MCDST for example) and then begin teaching it at college. Clearly, I want industry experience and not just teach something I've not put into practice (which is why my Cisco training was so awful), and I also felt that volunteering would give me further experience I can use to enhance my portfolio, whilst also putting something back into the community. Just glad to have got this far tbh.
Now, be honest. This is what you are tutoring, isn't it: http://www.geekologie.com/2008/09/uk_university_offering_course.php
