Here's a glimpse of the stuff in my room, not much, mostly PC games and DVDs. I had to sell a lot of my PS2, GC and Xbox games when I moved Missing are my Sega CD games, a few more Genesis games and a shitload (100+) that are upstairs. Also forgetting my 32x, Sega CD, Genesis, Dreamcast and all other gear, including my PC. I'll post that tomorrow probably. Anyways, here goes: I do have the entire Studio Ghibli collection though, which should make up for the lack of games
You surprise me with your taste in British humor. Rowan Atkinson as "Mr. Bean", next to the cult film "This is Spinal Tap" (mine goes to 11) and a boxed collection of Monty Python material... Not sure whether you've looked into it much, but Spinal Tap have a second film called "The Return of....". Eric Idle from the Python team wrote and starred in a rather strange piss take of the Beatles called "The Rutles". It's a strange film, seriously dated now and I watched it once and sold this DVD. Not a keeper. I can't understand "Mr. Bean" or how anyone can find it remotely funny. The entire thing just gets on my nerves, but Rowan Atkinson actually shot to cult status in British comedy for "Blackaddar". It's a long series of DVD's from the BBC and would cost a fortune to obtain them all, but if you've never seen any of them, it's worth a look. ...you'll now come back and say "Actually, I hate those DVD's... British comedy sucks!" ;-) If not, then I could also recommend a pile of other stuff. Although it's a very dark film, full of strange humor I'd recommend "Withnail & I" if for nothing more than the "Camden Carrot" scene. My favourite character has got to be Danny the drug dealer. Played by Ralph Brown, who incidentally went on to appear in "Alien" and "Star Wars". Though this drug dealing part became so much associated with him that he was a bit type cast in other comedies. Anyway, now I realise where your username came from!
Funny you should mention all the British stuff. I was actually born in Kent (Medway-area, pretty near Bexley and London) and moved to Canada, hence all the British DVDs, and some games. Surprisingly, Spinal Tap's a cult film here too, expecially among the music scene, which is big in this part of town. Opeth are a progressive death metal band from Sweden, great music, filled with acoustic sections and brutal magnificence. Think Pink Floyd meets death metal. Anyways, thanks for the suggestions, I'll have to check them out :033:
Hey, nice to meet ya! I am going to spend the rest of my day trying to imagine "Pink Floyd meets death metal...." That is one hell of a combination. Not one I'd immediately have thought would work, but I'll check them out. I didn't realise Spinal Tap had so much of a following outside the UK. I've always been under the impression that it was SO British that people would take one look and think "What is going on?" It has always stunned me that anyone fully understood what the hell "Monty Python" were about too. The films are far more accessible than the TV Series which I remember watching as a kid and being totally into. They were inspired by the likes of Sir Harry Secombe, Peter Sellers (more famous in the US for his role as "The Pink Panther" detective), and Spike Milligan. The Goon Show ran for several years and was the beginning of British comedy as it is today. Prior to that, the BBC were churning out were tight lipped & serious comedy programmes that were like listening to paint dry. You can actually listen to a pile of stuff (some of it utter rubbish) here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7/comedy/index.shtml?Today Radio 7 in almost an archieve of classic British radio / TV comedy. Although a radio station, a lot of TV programmes have been transfered / adapted for radio. Or there's Jongleurs is you are feeling nostalgic for a bit of live British comedy: http://www.jongleurs.com/video/03corp02.html
If you're going to listen to one of their records, I'd advise Blackwater Park. It's excellent. I'm with you on the Bean criticism (sorry Ryan!), but I always just considered it a kid's comedy program (sorry x2 Ryan) so not anything to really pay attention to. I'm pretty Sure Atkinson's first big break was "Not the Nine O'Clock News", by the way, which had its moments.
Still Life's better ;-):020: Nope, got them all loose. cost about 10 pounds each, and I've got 16. That comes to about $300 or so.
I'll look out for the album, thanks for the tip. As for Atkinson's big break. He certainly became a recognised figure & comedian in "Not the Nine O'Clock News" as did a number of other associated comedians, however he shot to fame and became a bankable comedian/star/celebrity on "Blackadder". Without the success of that series he'd have never ended up in Hollywood discussing "Mr. Bean". Few people seem to remember "The Thin Blue Line" which was actually not too bad either.
Yeah, What is that anyway? h: Me never seen it before.... and its all packed in a standard sized DVD case? Not two seperate cases in a box like the Sonice Adventure Double Pack.... Strange. Nice collection, btw. No matter how small compared to lots of people here it may be.
That's awesome. I hope to add more of his titles to my little library. Grave of the Fireflies = saddest movie ever
Still Life is great, but I do prefer Blackwater Park. Both albums require repeated listening, like most metal. I'd imagine that Metroid double pack is done like the other Gamecube multi-disc releases, with a plastic frame insert. Can't say I've seen it before, anyway. EDIT: ah.
Camberwell? Shite, I should get to know my areas of London better OH: however it looks like I am not the only ones to call joints Camden Carrots: http://forums.contractoruk.com/postmode49893-threaded.html ...although this poster also gets his areas corrected lol Blimey, all these years I thought it was Camden...tusk, tusk!
Orchid is my favorite right now. but that changes every week.haha but no matter what Demon of The Fall = Pure sex
actually there is (atleast here in sweden) a boxset with all the blackadder episodes thats really cheap, about $50 for 6 or 7DVDs, lord flasheart says: great value!
heh, finally a topic that really interests me!!!! heh, I'll agree with you guy's on Bean. It utterly has to be some of the worse use of Atkinson's abilities, it has zero overall depth compared to Black adder, and frankly sometimes it just ain't funny (although it has it moments) It's interesting to note that several "memorable" bean episodes were actually originally created 10 years prior in his stand up acts... 9'o'clock News i guess you could call it Atkinson's break, it gave him the exposure he needed, though i still feel that his abilities weren't fully realized. The first black adder i would say was marred by the characters themselves. the original blackadder while cunning then as he was in later series lacked some of the finesse that we've come to expect in later 'adders. I think the series really hit it's stride with Adder 11, its setting combined the best of medieval Europe along with some of the best acting(the turnip episode is truly a classic) Blackadder 3 took the series to a different time frame(victorian england) however i think the limits of adder's role(a butler) somewhat hampered the series. Black adder 4 is perhaps the finest in the series. It combined some of the finest comedians of their time (atkinson, laurie, robinson, frye) along with the ever exploitable war setting. Adder 5 released at the millennium dome in 99 tried to combine the best of all the adders, though it focused a little too much on the antics of adder an baldrick, along with some scripted acting The Thin Blue Line is seriously underrated. It's in the same vein as adder, but reinvented as a cop comedy. Its scripting and acting put it in second behind the legendary adder Atkinson reprised his role as bean in an animated series which lasted 3(or is it 4 seasons) it was basically an even more child-ized version of the older bean, good but not amazing. The Bean Movie:.....lets not talk about that............. Beans Holiday: (havent seen the entire movie..yet to be released in NA) It looks to be in the same vein as the older bean series, focusing more on atkinsons physical comedy rather than verbal(a damm shame)...it will also be the last bean property made..so says atkinson Johnny English:.....it felt way to scripted and never really seemed to get it quite "right"..... Full Throttle: A movie atkinson did based on an old race car driver, while not a comedy, it does show a much more reserved atkinson..... ...oh and 'bout those 'adder dvd's......50 bucks is a steal, when i purchased mine i paid over 120 cdn for it (insanely hard to fine then) Ryan
