    Hey guys,
A couple of weeks ago I bought this Gameboy at the flee market. The screen is pretty scratched up but everything else seems to be in good condition. I only payed 2 euros for it. It has some Korean writing on the front so I assume it's some kind of Korean Gameboy. Is this rare? What would this be worth? I'm probably keeping it since I collect myself.

It's just the Korean release of the Game Boy known as a Comboy. It may have some value if in good condition but considering its pretty beaten up it will only be of value to the real Hard Core Korean console collector. It is quite rare outside of Korea that's for sure.

The display window is a generic one, so a refurbishing it in regards to the screen would be very simple. Two Euros is total steal for any working GameBoy, and especially for a rare Comboy version, that's for sure.

Well it's not really beaten up, only the screen is and that's something replacable.

Seems to be pretty rare since I can't find any eBay listings or anything. I'm so happy that I found it!

An excellent find. Please spend a few $ on ebay and buy the replacement screen plastic.
Refurbish this Gameboy to it's proper glory !

A nice find for that price. Personally, I wouldn't bother replacing the screen cover unless you're planning to play it regularly, and even then only if the scratches are too distracting. Might as well keep it original if it's just going to be a display piece. (and if you're ever interested in selling/trading it, please PM me! ;))

Honestly I have no idea of the value so yeah. Also I'm going to keep it because it's so rare here. Never thought I would find something like this in a Belgian village fleemarket.

If you change the screen lens you should get a glass one.

No way, no idea they came in glass. Time to upgrade all my crappy chinese plastic display covers!

Although it seems to be hard to find anything other than gbc and gba ones. I'll keep looking for original DMG and pocket ones in glass.

I found a Mini Comboy this week as well. Like yours, the screen on mine was quite messed up and it had a few other problems as well. However I would strongly recommend swapping the screen because it's very easy to do. With a couple hours of careful cleaning and attention to detail I brought a lot of life back into mine. It also wouldn't play with batteries before and I was able to fix that by cleaning off some corrosion.

Internally I was surprised at how it's virtually identical to a normal gameboy. There's really not much more to it than a special screen printed front screen. Do you happen to have pictures of the back of yours? Mine was absent of all serial numbers or stickers so I'm not sure what it should look like.

Here are some images of mine before and after:

I'm also going to clean it up and replace the screen, mine doesn't have any serial numbers or stickers on the back!

(cannot find korean only gb games! If anybody knows of any could you pm me or message on here?) If anybody is interested to see (not buy as it's my pride and joy) i have a mint condition comboy which i purchased for £37 on a wrongly listed auction off ebay (uk) a few months later two others cropped up which were very badly damaged.. they still managed to sell for around £80-130. Two months ago my prayers were answered. Somebody had found a box in a friends loft and had no clue as to what it was and it's value! It was a mint condition Comboy box with polystyrene insert and manuals! (Sadly no tetris game..) i managed to win the auction for £41 posted! My girlfriend wasn't pleased i'd spent £41 on an empty box. But i think this will increase the value of it to a minimum of £200+ due to the japanese white gameboy being around that price! Koreans are known for throwing away old technology so this could possibly be one of the rarest gameboys! Upon checking my photos i have none saved, tomorrow morning (00:28 here in uk so i'm in bed) i shall take pictures of it and put on here. You're welcome to distribute so long as you mention Ashley Goode in the article speak soon!

EDIT: I also forgot to mention that when i purchased it the back had a crack in it so i swapped it over with a japanese back. So i'm in the same boat as you guys with no serial number, i believe the serial number has a different font like the japanese version is different to the rest of the worlds. Also to make things worse the contrast dial had been damaged and the earphone jack had some sort of plastic jammed in it, both were replaced from the japanese model. (Attempting to at least keep it asian)

    Yet again anothet EDIT:
I found the listing on ebay of the box i won, i'll post pics of the actualy comboy inside it with more pics tomorrow

Nice find! Though it always amazes me the stuff that doesn't really belong in Korea but which turns up here, I'm also impressed with the Korean stuff that just shows up randomly in other parts of the world. (a Super Comboy at a Goodwill in the US, a Mini Comboy at a flea market in Europe, etc..)

I recently found a cart of Tetris that you may be interested in but sadly it has lost a bit of its luster. Boxed and complete games are super rare nowadays and what does find its way out is often a bit rough around the edges (for the reasons you described above).

Totally forgot about this forum, i'm on nights tonight i'll take the pictures tomorrow, i'd love to have it but the condition isn't on par with my set is it bad that seeing rare items damaged upsets me slightly? Just makes me feel disapointed! Currently getting together a dmg project wrote up, clear dmg frosted with a white backlight (switched on via a external toggle) with an analogue stick (only ever seen one custom dmg with stick which only had one photo) biverted backlight with led power light and a few extra leds for decoration, white custom screen but with the official writing and white buttons. also i'll be getting an everdrive after the setup is complete, i'll be purchasing parts after new years. I'll keep this forum posted and if somebody can work out how to transfer my nessages to a different link that would help a lot! After everything is done i'll take a pic of my custom with the comboy and a boxed mint condition green golf play it loud. As for now this is my old collection which is on my instagram (godztar) IMG_20151228_210156-1.png

    I completely understand.

With Korean stuff being my primary collecting focus, you often have to just jump on whatever comes along and then trade up later if something else comes along. I'll let you know if I find a better condition copy.
