Well, kinda of. For years i've trying to get one of the known existing versions of Gran Turismo 2000 (demo or betas), with no success. When i found the discs for sale, it was expensive or i had no money (or no paypal, like now). This weekend i finally managed to get the demo version, on a CD-R copy. All i can say is that i got it from "A Friend". The demo is from the PlayStation Festival 2000,a PS2 pre-launch event in Japan. Here's what on the disc: The demo starts with a cool video showing cars from the GT1, GT2 and of course the early models of the GT2000 demo. After the video, a very early main menu shows up with only a GAME START option. Pressing X, gets you to the car selection. Only the Mitsubish Lancer Evolution V GSR is avaiable, but you can select from a range of colors. Pressing X again lets you choose some traditional options like: Automatic or Manual Racing or Drift Vibration On of Off. After you select all, the disc load and you start the race at Seattle Circut. A very very early Seattle Circuit i might add. Having played the final version of this track in Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec and the upgraded version in Gran Turismo 4, i can easily spot the differences. Low-res textures (reminds of a PS1 game), very early lightning effects, lots of missing 3d scenary objects. The cars have great 3d models, but i think they are better on the final Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec. Special effects like Anti-Aliasing are also not avaiable. Just check this comparison made by IGN. They compared this demo disc of Gran Turismo 2000 with final retail version of Gran Turismo 3. http://ps2.ign.com/articles/094/094409p1.html Being a fan of Polyphony Digital and Gran Turismo, i'm so happy of finally having the chance to have it, even if it's not the right way to do it ( to have the official demo disc). Maybe someday i can have the original demo disc and possibly maybe a beta version. Just wanted to share my happiness with you guys. Hope you guys don't criticize me of having it on a CD-R. More info on Gran Turismo 2000, on another post by me: http://assemblergames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=57413&postcount=121 http://www.angelfire.com/games/allvideogamescanada/previews.html http://megasoccer.free.fr/sites/mouton/sony_ps2presentation.htm
im not, i mean it was demo, not an actual game or anything. Since it was give out free i think theres no guilt.congrats.
Considering how long you've been looking for it, and the fact that you'd buy it if you could, i wouldn't worry about it too much... Congrats man! Cool isn't it? If you play enough you'll get some weird errors, but it's still cool.
Yeah, i got it for free. This "A Friend" have a copy of this disc, when the PS2 was first shown in Brazil at 2000 UD (UD is a kind of Consumer Electronic Show). He told me the PS2 was shown with this Gran Turismo demo disc and the final retail version of Tekken Tag Tournament. Although it was shown at the event, Sony never supported the console officialy down here. Just like they did with the PS1. OH: I always wanted to have this. I would have anything related with Gran Turismo if i could. It's great to have an early piece of code of the game. GT history It amazes me to see what Kazunori Yamauchi and Polyphony Digital managed to accomplish with GT3 and GT4, by watching/playing this early version. I already got one error. When i choose the red color, and then confirmed the options, the screen went black (for loading), but the music continued and it stayed there. I reset the PS2 and it loaded normally. Early bugs... I'm so happy, that i'm doing a custom cover for it! Just like the one used in the promotion i posted. So i can put it next to my GT collection.
great find! don't feel guilty for owning that copy i have lots of copies that i'm constantly trying to switch for originals along the way by the way, too bad there's no more complete versions
I did make a post a few weeks ago about a set of Festival discs going on ebay for about 5 GBP, but it was deleted. Congrats on finally playing it
And I hate myself for not seeing that auction 'til after it was over! I have a copy of the GT2000 disc myself too though, a guy that had a bootleg of it (out of all weird things to have a silver of) let me have a look at it
I'm actually very impressed about it. This disc was released in early 2000, at the PlayStation Festival, before the PS2 launch. So it was being in development for at least 3 months before that. If you remember Gran Turismo 2000 was going to be an updated version Gran Turismo 2, using the PS2 power do improve graphics, physics and so on, to be released at PS2 launch. It didn't happened, as we all know. Even being an early code, the car handles great. Even better than released games like R: Racing Evolution for example. The graphics are ok, even with the scenary still using low resolution textures from the PS1 version.
I figured someone here had. I would have got them if I had realised they'd be so cheap, but I have a US PS2, so it put me off. Congrats
