I just heard of a friend of a friend who traded in Resident Evil 4 in GameStop for the grand total of FOUR EURO.

Then I remembered how people were saying there was a shortage of copies of the game in the UK, so I checked the 'bay for PAL copies of RE4. Most of them were selling for around £25-30!! I feel really sorry for that guy...

Anyone know why there is a shortage of them in the UK? I found it odd that on the version they sell here (which is also PAL English of course), it says "not for sale in the UK" on the box. Was the UK version censored, or do games still need BBFC ratings on the boxes to be sold there or something?

Resident Evil 4 has a BBFC 15, So thats probably why the irish version couldn't be sold here.

Good question actually. In France here, it says not for sale in "Royame Unie", or however they spell it in French.

I was wondering, did the French get a gorier version?

Which reminds me. Which version is recomended with regards to least censorship?

That'll explain it. We used to just get games with the Irish Film Censors Office ratings stuck over the BBFC ones (they often just slap a sticker over it on VHS tapes and DVDs too), but it seems the IFCO deemed them not necessary after the PEGI (Pan European Game Information) ratings came into use. So I guess that Ireland is now getting totally different game boxes to everyone else (as it'll be in English, though it might be the same in the Netherlands) when games get BBFC 15/18 ratings in the UK? Weird...

RE4 was 15s in the UK? That's odd as it was rated 18+ PEGI. I remember there were rumours about the removal of a decapitation in the game in one of the versions - was that the US one or UK?

Aherm...DON'T GO TO VIDEO GAME SHOPS OWNED BY BIG EVIL COMPANIES.

Not only do you NEVER stand a chance of finding a good deal on anything (due to the fact that all games are priced 10,000 miles away in the evil corporate headquarters).
You can't even haggle! There's no saying "Hey, this game has 10,000 scratches, No case, and that kid over there just took a shit on it...can't I have it for 50 cents?" Nope, still the same price, no matter what condition. (Note: I'd never buy a destroyed, shat upon game...but boxed and unboxed carts...the same price...HAHAHA!)

They're also pushy, ("Hey don't you want to buy the 'Preowned' RE4 for 30 euros so we can make more money, because we just bought your friend's copy for 4!" moneygrubbing SOBs.

Ah yes, also if you're into classic games, theres no point of going to Gamestop or EB or Game or whatever else you might have, because odds are that it's corporate policy that they can't take them. It takes half the fun away from buying when only half of the games are there.

Finally, small stores need your business. If everbody goes to TheElectronicsGameBoutiqueStopLand, the mom & pop style stores will shrivel up and die. And that just sucks.

    End rant.

I don't trust people who know as much about a product as myself therefore I almost never go to gameshops. I can't remember the last time I visited gamestop or eb.

This friend of a friend is an idiot and that's not the store's fault. Their goal is to make a profit and I'm not going to blame them for getting the most profit they can. They didn't cheat him. He knew exactly what they were willing to pay and he took it. He could have just as easily walked out so that puts any blame squarely on him.

The goal of everyone when buying something is to get as much as they can for as little as they can. If anyone here found an Ebay auction for a Neo Geo and ten games with a $20.00 buy it now option are you going to bid it up to what it should be? Hell no, You're going to hit that buy it now button as fast as you can. How is that any different?

My local gamestop doesnt understand the phrase, "I'm a collector."

Dumb employee-Wanna trade in your old games for the newer titles?
Me-No, I'm a collector, and I havent sold anything in almost 3 years.
    Dumb employee-?
Dumb employee-Wanna trade in your old games for GTA san Andreas? Its cool! You can get fat and get a haircut! Its like a whole other game, when you change yourself up!
    Me-NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I am taking up their offer on taking old game controllers for credit/money. Im giving them a lot of old 3rd party controllers that have lost their usefullness YEARS ago. :smt096 :smt042 :smt096

the other night the owner of a local game store got shot when his store was robbed. i was watching them interview the employes and i remember thinking, 'fucking cocksucker deserved it.' not that he did deserve it...its just lately it seems that videogame stores are becoming less about service and more about how much money they can squeeze out of you. it pisses me off. everytime i try to buy a game, i get hounded with pre-order requests, member cards, trade in scams, and magazine subscriptions. instead of making me feel good about my purchase the tool behind the counter hawks the latest promotion trying to get me to spend even more money.

i used a credit card once at gamestop and now everytime i go to get my mail, theres like 9 pounds of gameinformer related junkmail.

i pray for another crash in the videogame industry to wipe these corperate whores away.

I do want a subscription to game informer and play, so I might take them up on the mag subscription offer so he will shut the hell up.

BTW, if you ever need a rare, somewhat obscure game, check your local Toys R us. No one ever goes there, and the one in Texarkana still has mint N64 Perfect Darks for sale. I went to every gamestop and Eb games in Texarkana yesterday looking for SMT Nocturne, (high Demand and next to no supply ) and they had several, while just one of the "Games only" places had one used copy for $40 for JUST THE GAME CD!!! I'm extemely surprised the SMT series is doing so well, but sadly most of the people thought it was a "new" series. What dumb masses. :ayashi

I just hope to God the Fire Emblem series explodes and we see all the goodies and the whole series. :-D

Yeah, the big chains are knocking out all the little stores. Used to be a Store called "Game World" near where I live that had new stuff, but also games and systems going all the way back to Fairchild Channel F. It was cool becasue I was the only person who ever bought old stuff, and sometimes they'd just give me stuff for free (scored loads of good condition working boxed SMS carts off them, as well as a lot of Atari 8-bit computer games.) But since Shlockbuster started selling used games again they had to close up. That's fucking progress for you.

Think about it; Do you really go anywhere that isn't a chain store for anything anymore?

    Especially for vidogames and consoles.

Wishful thinking. You do realize that small independent stores are not exactly widespread. In my area, the only thing around is Gamestop and EB Games, as well as Walmart and Bestbuy. Not a single Game Crazy or mom and pop shop to be found.

Not everyone has the luxury of having these independent stores within walking distance of their homes. As for eBay and the usual online stores, I usually don't bother.

They're definately not in walking distance of my house either, but I go to them because they're almost always better.

There's an independent game store about 45 minutes away from my college...towards Cincinatti that's absolutely amazing.

That was the most common N64 game after the console died. Many toy stores had multiple copies left over. If I am at the mall quite often I will go to every store that has games, except eb and gamestop, and look through every title just to see who has what.

If I am in Salem then I go to Harrison's comics. Locally I go to an anime/asian shop and a hobby shop that carries videogames, card games, statuettes, paintball equipment, action figures, comics, etc. Next door to the hobby shop is a toys r us. The shop has been known to buy up all of toys r us' stock for certain new items the day they are released.
