Just yesterday I tweeted about being snobbed off by a GAME store owner (yeah he was the store owner) about getting a disc changed to a non-classics one, which they screwed up on. I went up to the owner and asked for this process to be done.. At first he didn't even reply just looked at the ground, and then replied with a chuckle and said "Well, ok." After 15 minutes of him looking around for another disc he grabs one and it's another classics disc. He then asked me "What do you want to do about it?", I quickly replied "Well, what can *YOU* do about this?" with a quick short answer of "Nothing you can do, you bought it a month ago!" I later said "Well, I don't *EVER* buy XBOX 360 classic games, ever. I didn't know that classics was on the disc until last night" I just left it at that, obviously he was weaving out of a refund which at first he should of offered. This is just staff being lazy, this isn't the first time I've been turned down for a employee mistake. I can understand if I wanted a classics disc and even if I wanted one I would of bought the classics version! Not sure if this bothers anyone else, but it really gets me pissed off. It sure, maybe the same game but it doesn't belong to that case and therefore it's not complete. Does this seriously bother anyone else? Or this a sign of OC disorder? I should add that, employees always look at me weird this problem occurs. Yeah well fuck them. I have the right to be upset right? After looking on eBay I can't find the game for $10, so I might go swap it at EB or something (as a trade in?).. Wish me luck. I'm not too sure if this a is a rant or anything but it's surely off topic.OH:
its a shame you didnt notice it sooner you may have had better luck getting it swapped and yes it would piss me off too
Fancy you say that Haunted, because this GAME store actually keeps all games in their cases in bigger plastic clamps (do you know what I'm talking about? I can't quite explain what they use). Besides, even if I did go earlier they don't have any other copies. So from what I gather from this, they accepted the trade in like this. Plain, plain laziness.
Surely you should have checked it before you left the store? If I have to buy games from any store then I would check the disc for scratches or damage before I left and would have probably noticed it had "Classics" in big letters on the front. Personally I think you were treated fine, you got a refund. From what you wrote it does sound like you were a little rude and a month, how the hell did it take you a month to realise this? A few days or a week, but a month?
Classics isn't very noticeable for someone who hasn't seen a classics disc before (like I said before). With the Kameo art it blended in for me. It took a month for me to notice because I bought the game, and placed it into my draw and never looked at it again. Regardless with the time it took for me to even notice the disc is irrelevant. They still screwed up regardless. They always say "Any problems, hold onto your receipt" I also DIDN'T get a refund, even if I asked for a refund they would of given me $10 store credit.OH: It's not like other console's Platinum/Classic discs that are extremely noticable. Playstation 2 are silver, Playstation 3 are greyish with yellow PLATINUM across it. Classics is a small banner. I wasn't rude at all, I'm very friendly when I approach people. I didn't run in screaming and demanding another disc. It was rude for the owner to laugh at me for trying to fix a problem he created in the first place.
Reminds me when I tried to return my brothers shit HP laptop. Reason: HP = SHIT  The 'technical manager' kept explaining to me that the Windows crash dump file gets stored in the BIOS, and other useless crap... I hate when people show off or act all skilled and smart just because they have a job or whatever there point is. So I turned around with my brothers laptop and left the store (Dick Smith) and sold it on eBay
Reminds me when I bought lego racers 2 for my nephew at game stop and the game didn't work and then they refused to exchange it for another copy.
I once had to return a copy of Street Fighter IV to Blockbuster (which is pretty much the place to buy used games down here) because my X360 box, supposedly sealed and guaranteed, came with a PS3 disc inside. And I had to explain this issue to the counter girl, then her manager, for a few minutes, until they understood my problem with this.
Well, it WAS used, just, you know, re-sealed with that blockbuster warranty sticker. Still, the coolest part was explaining how this was wrong for a few minutes before they actually agreed to change my disc.
This reminds of the time I purchased a used copy of Morrowind: Game of the year edition from GameCrazy. I received a standard, non-GOTY copy without the Bloodmoon and Tribunal expansions. I went back the next day thinking I'd have to explain the difference to some dumb fuck behind the counter, but the person actually understood the difference immediately and gave me the correct disc with no hassle. And this was back when GOTY editions were relatively uncommon in console games. It's nice when companies hire people who are actually competent and understand the ins and outs of what they're selling.
Unfortunately I think most companies aren't doing it... The story reminds me the bad experience I had with a mobile phone purchase. Large amount was paid to official retailer for a brand new and sealed phone. After opening the package at home, clearly was slightly used with some small marks. Can you imagine how could I prove it..? As I was expecting, they didn't believe me and told me I did the marks, but happily went to another official retailer and they replaced it. It's not always possible to check everything you buy before leaving the store and couldn't imagine would happen with a brand new item...
Only a disc. Can't take it with you when you die. Worth fuck all. Sole purpose of EB/Game is to sell items of entertainment, not collectors items.
Maybe so, but they have this quality guarantee badge all over their stores. In terms of a game being complete, to me that's quality. It's not only what they stock that's important for quality, you're also paying for service. Being snobbed off by any staff member is not quality service. I understand this game isn't rare, and will most likely never be.. not that I care now for it. However this rant goes for any game I buy, I shouldn't have to flick through every single page in a manual and check the case 20 times over to make sure it's in acceptable condition, I thought they looked over that shit in trade ins... Well looks like they don't give a fuck any more. I can rant on for ever about my local stores.. I guess I won't be going back ever again.
I'm all for unattachment from material possessions, and all. But it's also nice to get exactly what I paid for - and to otherwise be able to complain and have someone listen and correct the issue. In general, it's a matter of principle - not that our shiny object is imperfect, but the fact that the people who sold it to us are retarded, and unwilling to help us.
Very true, just I think in this isolated incident it really wasn't worth all of the aggravation and upset. If I had been serving behind the till my question would have been "when you put the disk in does it play the game on the label?" "does it work correctly?" "Yes?" "Ok so where's the problem then?" I dunno, I guess it depends on your outlook in life. 4-5 years ago I think I too would have been annoyed about this but these days after a few interesting life experiences my attachment to material possessions is practically nil and I feel all the better for it. I had a similar experience where somebody put a platinum copy of Black inside a original retail case. I was annoyed for a minute or two but once it was up there on the shelf after being played to death the thought of the platinum disc sitting in the box laughing at me didn't keep me up at night. Unless you've got an insanely hot girl/guy around who's obsessed with video games and is likely to sleep with you depending on the quality and consistency of your game collection then there's little need to worry.
I'd do a chargeback. They guarantee their games will work, if they refuse to acknowledge they sold a busted game they deserve a chargeback.
Yeah, I've had issues with Gamestop putting the wrong edition of the game in the casing.. If I buy say a couple of Fable 2 Plat used that has the DLC on disc, I expect to get that disc so I can have the DLC. I wish the 3-4 local Gamestops out here hired more competent people who actually knew something about gaming.. The people up there don't enjoy their job, and just seem like they're trying to get through the day. After my issues with used stuff at GS, I refuse to buy consoles or used items from there. If I'm going to buy anything used, I'll go to a local Game Factor where a guy I went to school with works. There's also a local gameshop that has a lot of retro and modern games too, and I've known the owner for years and I've bought from him at a Flee-market before he got his own shop, so I trust him.
I love drinking but I hate working in a bar. I think even if you absolutely loved games it'd be a chore trying to give a shit in a place like Gamestop. Imagine how many mothers and grandmothers you have to put up with coming in asking for "Call of Shooty 7" and "Fifa - The New One" Must be soul destroying.
