This is true. When I worked at Gamestop our quota was 3 Game Informer subscriptions and 7 pre-orders a week. I don't think this is reasonable if the store isn't located in the heart of some metropolis.
That was the day Gamestop lost my business forever, the first time they pulled that one on me - and then mocked me when I complained. I walked out.
THIS^^^ Is what I hate, you pay for a new game but usually the conditions of the cases and sometimes booklets look like ex-rentals! I always ask for a sealed copy, and if they don't either lower the price or I'm out the door graphique you're not alone, I always get mocked by staff, actually mainly it was from "GAME" stores though, glad they bit the dust.
Even worse, for me at least (since I rarely buy games new), is spending a ton of time comparing duplicate used copies of a game on a shelf to determine which is in the best condition only to have them pull another case / copy out of the drawer behind the counter and try to give me that, usually missing the instruction booklet, etc.
This is true. I actually used to be talkative with a gamestop manager who bragged that he loved his staff because they consistently met quota for pre-sales. They do get the orders from the higher ups. I have a feeling that as we move forward they will start to push a lot more DLC and online games/services.
The condescending attitude you get from employees at Gamestop is mindblowing. I get this everytime I have ever been in that store, and ask them for a new copy of a game. It goes down like this: Me: "Hi, do you have this game new?" Gamestop: "Yea sure" *reaches into drawer behind counter, pulls out plastic baggy containing disc and manual, walks out to display rack to get case/insert* Me: "I'm looking for a new copy, not a used copy." Gamestop: "This is new, its..." Me: "No. Its used. You opened it, the disc and manual have been rubbing against each other in a drawer for months, and the case/insert has been getting beat to shit on the wall by customers. This is not new." They then get really cranky, and will keep arguing that the game is brand new. I have had this discussion with them everytime I have ever been in that store before. The other bad part is when they put those yellow stickers not on the outside of the case... but on the spine of the insert itself! The glue seeps into the insert, warps and distorts it, and also stains the paper. If you are lucky enough to remove the sticker without tearing the insert.
They do consider it "new" but im sure everyone here knows why they do that: Employees are encouraged to take software home to play. There are limitations on what they can bring, when they can bring it etc... however they take "new" software home, signed out to use and play so they can talk about it. I believe its even a perk of working in the store. There is otherwise no reason why the software is opened. The big AAA titles have plenty of box art that can be put into a green or bluray case to sit on the shelf. Other than pre owned software there isnt a reason to have it opened. I suppose that is a benefit of buying from big box, they always have shrink wrapped software. always.
The last game I bought used was Fallout New Vegas. It was on the shelf with the disc in the case. I was surprised and made a joke to the clerk about how I should get a discount, considering I could have just taken the disc. Suffice it to say he was not impressed, huffed and puffed and said that it happens too often. I think he was the manager but was not wearing a nametag. Usually, around here they just have empty cases on the shelves so you cant compare unless you ask them to...
This in and of itself would make it used lol. Though my work around to avoid getting into arguements with them is to ask, "Is it factory sealed?". Then they really can't say anything else. It either is or it isn't.
Yeah. I will avoid gamestop if I can to buy games for this sole reason. One time a guy was perplexed as to why I felt the way I did...I said "Would you pay full price for underwear that I opened up, wore, and put back?"
I've had mixed experiences with gamestop. theres 3 seperate stores on the same block and only one of them is decent. The employees at the particular one will still be friendly and have game-related conversations with me. I have bought used games there and they gave me better cases than the ones I took to the register. I also brought back a game that didn't read on my ps3 and they exchanged it, no hassle. Can't say the same for the other 2 gamestops. (don't know why they'd need 3 gamestops in the same shopping center) Anyway, I only buy from gamestop if they have sales on games or if I need some accessory. Last time I bought games there was on black Friday. Last time I bought something new there was when they still sold ps1 stuff, soon after they changed from funcoland.
