I just want to share with you guys that I have reached a milestone in my life... I graduated this summer. I went through a lot past spring 2005 as some of you may not have known. I took this class that made me re-evaluate myself and what I wanted out of life. Doing that I found out that Computer Science, working on computers for a living is not really my thing (I'm talking about programming, and building them, not using them as a work tool) I realized that Architecture is what I wanted to do. It was actually the first career I seriously looked into and played around in drafting floorplans of my dream-homes, etc. So, I switched degrees so that I can graduate with an A.A. in General Studies, met the requirements, and now I filled out an admissions application to University of Florida to be admittend into their College of Design and Planning to begin Fall 2006 to work on a 4 year BA in Design degree, graduate, get a job as an intern-architect (its actually a paid job doing the tedious work for architectural firms) - gain experience, and then go back to school and work on my Masters in Architecture so that I can legally practice it. Realistically, I might be in UF for 3 years working on the BA as long as I go to summer school, which I will this time around. Hopefully, I'll land a job soon after graduation, thats not a desperate hope, thats a determined hope . So yeh, I thought I'd couldn't help myself in sharing this with you guys. I'm the first one in my family btw to have a college degree!!
Damn, congratulations! Getting a college degree in general is an admirable thing, but when you're the first in your family, it makes it an extra accomplishment. Good luck in the University this fall - work hard, but don't forget to enjoy yourself as well. College is the last chance you get before you have to become an Adult permanently.
Congrats indeed. May you get into Florida and not end up blowing your tuition on bar tabs and strip clubs by the first week.
I just want to be extra clear that it is not my entire family, but my immediate family that I am the first. I do have some relatives with degrees. But anyway, thanks a lot for you posts you guys.
Well done mate, being first in the family is a great thing, shame i can't be as my parents both have . I also can't easily out-do anyone in my family as my mum has an MA and is handing in a PHd this year None-the-less well done mate, hope the architect-ing goes well for you.
Great job. I can understand how hard it is to switch the field you want to work in, but it is admirable that you did it! Not many people have the courage to take on a whole new degree, and also congrats on being the first in your family to get a college degree!
Sir, congratulations. Have serious good luck in Architecture. Should anything arise where I can be of any help, do let me know.
Ohh, I thought you were gonna say your 50th birthday or something - hehe! Cool, glad to hear that. It happens, and it is always best to be able to stop and say - I don't want to do this. Good to get that out the way sooner rather than later. Hmm, I guess that's what they call an Architectural Technician here - like you have an Architecht, the boss, and all the people in the drawing office are Architectural Technicians. Sounds good!
