It came today atlast after much BS from Parcel Force ( Apparently no one was home when they delivered it - but there was 3 people here and a dog which barks at anything that moves, lysing bastards!) it was redlivered @ 6:30pm. OK so I go to power it up .... there was a very loud BOOM and a flash of light from the PSU ....it was set to 110v and not 220-240v so my 240v line killed it -_-. They should mark these damned PSU's better or use self-switching PSU's more often. Anyhow I open her open - I don't think the boards are damaged just the PSU and the fuse in my plug (thank god for strict safety laws!) . I dismantle the thing completely cleaning all the dust off the boards .... then I notice something odd.... It has Dual SH-4's!!! But ON TOP of that, It has Dual SH-2's!!! This is incredibly strange for it to have Dual SH-4, however Dual SH-2 is even stranger ... though maybe not so as it is supposed to use Saturn controller ports ... but surely they don't require 2 SH2's ? LOL Well anyways ... I put the thing back together, reset the PSU to 230v, got a lead without a blown fuse and with my arm shaking I power it up ..... BANG! I had killed it again! But this time there was a plume of smoke! I'm not as confident now that the original boards have survived (though the smoke did only come from the PSU) but the fuse in the plug blew (again) so hopefully the safety measures have saved it from unrepairable death. I have 2 PSU's knocking about from old pC's which I will try, however I think I may have to take the fuse from the kettle as I am running out at this rate! Sorry for the lack of pics but I'm operating on it on my kitchen table (mum is not too pleased) , my PC & webcam are upstairs and it only takes shite quality pics anyway -_-
there'se only one.. who....is....able.... to blow up his dev unit twice.... and his name is... LEGIT :smt043
If it wasn't the only rare hardware I have killed it could have been a one off ... but I've killed a GD Writer and almost killed a PSX Debugger... :angry In my defence though it needed repairs anyway :smt083 The internal GD Writer was missing from the bay, the Saturn controller ports were missing ( I scrounged some replacements for the repairs though) and a few wires seem to be missing .... but I seriously did not expect it to explode an inch from my face once let alone twice ... I got a few hours of use outta my ass though before I fall asleep gonna get back onto the "operating table" and see what can be done ... EDIT: Does anyone have a Techno Bird Japan inc. ATX-725B 250w PSU laying around?
Must be one of them fancy electric kettles :smt030 Are you going to do it again if you get another fuse, you know? BANG!
I switched the PSU and the fuse in my plug but so far no joy hehe - but then my spare PSU's don't seem to be working at all even with a working lead so god knows what's wrong with them -_- But I will never surrender! This thing will (hopefully) come to life someday! EDIT: Thanks to me being a SCSI nut I have all kinds of crap laying about and I managed to build an adaptor to hook up the Set 4's HDD to my laptop. Unfortunately there was nothing too interesting on the only 2Gb partition I saw, but there were projects on there which are compiled versions of the tecnical demos in the R4 SDK which were last modified 3rd quarter 1998 before the Dreamcast even hit the shelves in Japan! :smt033
