But based on the eBgames pre-order listings, $59.99 does appear to be the new "going" rate for new games, as was forecasted.

Of course, nothing's set in stone so these can and probably will change prior to launch.

Better not bloody increase it over here. They're already £40, which is around $75. Far, Far Too much already in my opinion, and I'm sure a lot of people (and parents, as parents buying their kids game is a very big market) will be pissed of if they increase the prices...

Gawd, how is it that the UK just gets screwed on EVERYTHING all the time.

I thought we had it bad. $75? I say you guys have the SAS invade the offices of the major game companies and "convince" them to adjust prices, lol.

It's not the game companies that set the retail prices. It's largely set between the console manufacturers and the distributers. The developers get only a small propertion of what you pay at the shops.

That's why certain companies want to move to the on-line distribution model, so they can offer cheaper games but still get more income than from the retailers.

You can't rate it like that though.... different parts of the world. Different economies. Sucks, but is the truth. BTW -- what's the current avarage retail price for game in the US?

Yep, OldProgie got it in one pretty much. None-the-less i feel any increase will be met with a very big backlash. I work in a small stationery/Cd/DVD/Game Shop (small selection of games, PC, PS2 and GBA only, and mainly recent titles) and the number of games sold to Parents buying for their kids hugely outnumbers customers buying for themselves. Whats more, most parents are very hesitant about buying Their son/daughter a new £30 (GBA)-£40 game - I feel any increases would push them over the limit, and their son/daughter simply wouldn't get a game...

Generally it's $49.99 for most new releases here in the US.

That price has more or less held for nearly a decade (barring the N64...those carts generally retailed for $59.99 to well over $70).

There will never be an end to Tony Hawk games.

Kids will be playing Tony Hawk games when the actual guy has been dead for 100 years, lol.

He'll be buried inside an enormous, Scrooge McDuck-style moneybin.

If they increase the price of games above £40... man that's it. I'd never buy anything in a shop again. I got pissed last time I bought a game (Viewtiful Joe) from a shop and found it half price on Play.com, I've been moving towards online shoping for a while now for new games. You still sometimes find decent priced DC/Saturn/earlier stuff in shops, though mostly they mark it up to "Ebay+a bit" prices and call it a "retro" section...

I've seen some games launch in Japan for about 8000 to 9000 yen. I think Dragon Quest 7 was at that range. Frankly the US prices seem more the exception than the rule. Especially when you compare the rates on Movies, CDs, and what in other industrialized nations.

I hope that they keep it at 49.99 usd though.

if i can recall correctly......console manufactures havent set the prices yet...so its up to sony at the tgs this year to do that, but usually the hype every console launch is that the prices will go up, and ill admidt i dont want them to go up, but remember in the eraly days of the ps2 and xbox...games here in canada were bout 70...which would be 60 us.......but i think people will ajust to it......i had to ajust when i wnet from 10 dollar ps1 to 30 dollar gc and finally 60 dollar ps2 games, plus its only 10 bucks, which isnt that much...though its still a pain in the ass

what we have to worry bout is games themselves.
we are relying to heavealy on sequels and cash in games
    marc eckops getting up?
    and1 b-ball
    t hawk 7

    remember what happened last time

the crash of 82. and we may be on the verge on one again if developers continue with sequels and what not.....we need innovation badly to survive, and when was the last time you played a recent innovative title(katarmi)

Crash is more of an 84 thing...and that can never happen again. Video games are big business nowadays. Developers like their money too much.
