Ben stiller looking in your window? but seriously, 4 player splitscreen is the bomb. Nothing beats getting drunk over a game, cursing each other for their dirty or lucky play!
I completely agree. Me and my buddies still love to have Halo 4 linking parties with 4 players on each xbox. there is nothing more fun than playing with 16 players in the same room face to face. I don't know what this world is coming to.
If people don't want to play four player split screen then fair enough, of course, but it should be an option for those who should. Same with bot support (computer controlled enemies for you to play against if you're on your own, or to pad out games with when there are too few humans) and a friendly fire setting - personally I would never turn off a friendly fire option, as it allows people to spam the area with explosives (and I HATE the way single player Half-Life 2 and others have no friendly fire damage, so that Alyx and others are immune to your carelessness), but it should be an option for those who want it. The player should always be able to choose how to play the game.
I always turn off auto-aim in any FPS that has the option, such as Goldeneye (I wish this was possible in the Halo games). BTW, I remember reading that in Goldeneye's single player, auto-aim was strong in easy mode, moderate in medium mode, and not too helpful in hard mode, which (if true) is more evidence of how much thought Rare put into the game. I can't remember how effective this is (it's been a long time since I played it with auto-aim) nor if anything like this applies in multiplayer, but I do remember that in Goldeneye's auto-aim the aim always went for the stomach, which encouraged you to turn off the auto-aim since that way you could go for the head-shot which is fatal in one bullet, not the two-to-several-bullets (depending on your weapon and the enemy's health, plus whether or not he was wearing a shield (bullet proof jacket)) that were required to kill when shooting at the stomach.
I miss it too. It was a cool technical feat, especially on systems with not a lot of horsepower. I always liked to see how much they'd simplify the graphics to get the split-screen running at a good clip.
4 player split screen is always awesome. I'm actually disappointed there isn't more 4 player split screen for consoles capable of 1080p, it was so much fun to play that way and you could fit actual details inside a resolution that big! I didn't really realize until I saw this thread I haven't seen 4 player split screen in such a long time...
I was never really fond of 4 player split screen back in the day due mainly to the fact that you had a tiny screen and the framerate suffered hard for Goldeneye. Halo wasn't anywhere near as bad doing split screen but you could also do 16 players on 4 Xboxes. Never tried 16 players on 16 XBoxes but I know I did a good number of XBoxes with Halo 2 local. Now that was some good shit. These days my friends are 150 miles away and I don't know anyone in town that isn't just a COD whore.
I never did 16 people on 16 Xboxes but I DID go to a party once that was 16 people on 4 xboxes! 4 TV's all in 4 player split screen for nearly 10 hours. IT was a lot of fun but halfway thru i had to switch to the fatty controllers to keep my hands from cramping
I remember playing a Hot Wheels racing game on Gamecube. Had lots of fun beating my mother and 2 brothers all the time with the 4 way split screen multiplayer. I've alway excelled in racing games that don't have too many hairpin turns. Good old days...
