I require images of obscure stuff for a print article

    Greetings all

I wrote this about a year ago, and now I'm going to have it reprinted in Retro Gamer magazine. I'll be expanding it slightly. I am also hoping to have some answers back from Mr ASSEMbler regarding the community and the victimisation of high profile collectors.

But! Since it's going to be in print, over 6 pages, I require decent photographs of obscure gaming items.

Rare pieces of hardware, unreleased game footage, and so on. To go with the theme of the article, in which I'll be discussing the nature of watermarked images, I was thinking it might even be an idea for anyone who submits an image, to have their own personalised and discreet watermark on it. Nothing too big, and nothing which obscures the main focus of the image, but a small one in the bottom right might be a cool idea. It would show who submitted it, and go along with the style of the piece.

They need to be wild and far out images though, something insane to really blow the minds of those reading. For example Mr ASSEMbler's photo of his living room, with all the debug PS1 machines. That was awesome.

Of course if you've already posted photos of your rarities in the Collections forum, and are happy to let me use them, then let me know or point me in the right direction. If you like, I can credit each individual in the caption of the image. So something like:
"Rare image of the unreleased Mario FX on the SNES, by illustrious collector Joe Smith."

I want this article with new images to be community focused. Not simply me stealing the images and using them like some other mags might, but crediting and highlighting the people who are archiving the history of videogames.

I can't provide copies of the mag to those who help, since dozens of people have already helped with it (and dozens more will have by the time this is reprinted), but I will try and provide scans for those on the forum to read.

If you have questions, do ask!

No problem about the watermark, that's cool. Normally we don't like using any images which have them, but for this obscure article, since it's integrated into the subculture, almost like territorial colours, and because a lot of people wouldn't want to submit images otherwise, I'm happy to include them and also work it into the theme of the article.

Thanks for the links, and I've PMd those requesting them.

Rest assured, credit will be given for each image used.

are official and well-known devkits obscure enough? I would think not.. rare proto/beta stuff should be though.

I know the article was skewed towards modern dev stuff mainly, but here are pics of my RDI Halcyon. After opening it up and finding eproms as opposed to maked roms, I'm thinking it may have never made it to production but I've never found any hard evidence either way.

I have the non watermarked pics I can send you as well, just let me know if you want to use any of them.

I probably don't have anything insanely rare (except maybe the NES 'Mission Control' system from Rocket Science Productions), but you are welcome to use anything pictured at my site:

I can provide high-resolution images of everything if needed.
(Only the Katana picture is not mine, that's from the Ebay auction when I won it...)

the only thing I have that I would call rare would be the prototype dev hardware for the AGB. Thought for the moment I'm missing a LCD screen for it.. but I'm 99.99% sure a LCD screen from a gba could be used. Also I need a power supply for it.. thought none seems to know what type I need =/

    Hey Assembler,

Yea, I picked one up earlier this year from a collector out in Arizona. It was pure luck that I happened to mention wanting one while we were working another deal. He was thinking about selling at the time and I was able to make a good enough offer to get it from him. It's all complete and working great. Came with all the original documentation and what not, with the exception of the box for the system. The disks have a little bit of rot, but not bad enough to keep it from playing. I'll have to pick up spares one of these days!

You have the holy grail! If you don't mind me asking, how much did that set you back?

Personally, I think seeing a Halcyon is far more impressive than any piece of dev...

Would some pics of my NES/SNES clone work? It's not much, but it's pretty obscure.

    Greetings gentlemen

Thank you to everyone who keeps sending images, you'll all be credited for your controbutions. I was actually due to start writing it today, but due to a shortened deadline for the holidays, we've decided to remove 8 pages and instead do a lift from a sister mag. Meaning I only start writing this next week, and it's going in the next issue (due on sale January time).

I just thought I'd keep you all posted on events.

    Many thanks

    J Szczepaniak
