So, several years ago I was at a huge flea market in Kentucky looking at gaming stuff, and in booth they had a glass case with assorted games and consoles such as a couple Game Gears, a Saturn, some game boy and virtual boy games and tons of loose NES carts. nothing too out of the ordinary. Well, when I was looking in the case, I noticed some playstation controllers on the very bottom shelf. At first I thought nothing of it, but then I saw a very odd looking controller. it looked kinda like this prototype pad but it had hand grips like the final controller and button layout from the final controller. the hand grips had a bit more of an angular shape to them though. Also the d-pad looked pretty much identical to the one on the prototype. I'm almost positive it was official because it looked like it was made of the exact kind of plastic that the regular controllers have and it had all same logos found on the regular controller. Has anybody seen a controller like the one i'm describing?

Sony made a bunch of strange pads like this before the release of the ps1. If you did find one like this you stumbled upon quite the rarity, early ps1 prototype pads are quite hard to come by.
Some (maybe all) however don't work on the consoles as they have a old school Pc serial connection.
    Here's a few of them.

I can't remember the site which had each one documented, there's a few people on these forums with some.
There's a load of different variations and I think there were one or two 3rd party ones which bare a slight resplendence but It doesn't sound like them.
