Right so as i posted just a minuites ago i bought some gaming items and two of them were SNES Games.

So i put the 1st game in and hooked the AV using the multi out with my GC scart lead and i fire the SNES up but no picture through my tv so i try the 2nd game again no picture, I check to see if i have my av2 set to S-Video but its set to video so its not that, I check the AV connection to se if its in right and yes it is so not that either :confused:

It seems to be doing something as i get tv screen going from black to a grey/black and displaying lines whilst it flickers

*EDIT* i tried using a RF cable on the RF out but it just switches the grey screen black but no picture

Does anyone know what my problem could be and if so how i could sort it out, Any help would be appreciated and i'll give thanks in advance

If you're getting grey flickering, that sounds like a PAL/NTSC issue. Aside from that, is the SCART cable sending Composite, S-Video, or RGB? I know the Gamecube RGB cable won't display anything on a SNES.

    Thanks for that ALCHY

well its RGB so if the Gamecube RGB cable won't display anything on a SNES. then thats not my problem as i tried using RF cable on RF out but the grey screen turns black when the snes is turned on but nothing shows up

That means a loose connection on the cart, more often than not. If it's going to a black screen on RF you should be good to go; clean the contacts on the carts and try again a few times. Give it 10 seconds each time, some of my carts take ages to load up.

Just a quick obvious question...they are from the correct region, right? PAL SNES and Superfamicom games have the same rounded cart shape. I notice one of the games you've got is "UN Squadron", which is called Area 88 (or similar) in Japan, so unless you've got a Superfamicom that can't really be the issue.

It is a pal snes with both games PAL as it states under the snes logo PAL Version.

i'll clean the contacts and try again.

I take it you're getting no sound? But the unit clearly powered on (LED light)? If so definitely cear your contacts. Inside the SNES will be the hard part, but I've found most SNES carts never seem to get cleaned and cleaning them off with a pencil eraser can do wonders for it.

Rubbing alcohol on a q-tip (cotton swab) works wonders ;)

I have cleaned the contacts on both the cartridge and snes unit but it still powers up showing led and the screen changes from the sort of grey you get with no rf signal to black and nothing else happens no matter how long i wait or leave it.

Have you tried it on a TV? With different cables?

I have only tired it with the one cable (RF) because at the moment thats the only cable i have.

I may try it on a diffrent tv when i have time and if i have to i will buy another cable for it.

You'd be better off getting a simple SNES Composite cable, or modding a Gamecube RGB cable to work for SNES RGB. To be honest, I don't think it's likely to be the RF cable, they're pretty indistructable things generally. You have tuned it in I suppose...? Don't mean to be patronising ;)

At this stage it might also be worth inspecting the cartridge connector on the SNES unit to see if it's damaged. If you're getting a black screen on RF that should mean that the SNES is broadcasting something, if it's not going into a game then there's a probably a problem somewhere in the SNES end.

Get a SNES/AV Famicom/N64/Gamecube standard composite cable, and use that to find out if you hear the game running at all. That would atleast let you know if the system is executing the game.

Right so i gave everything i needed to a good clean and tried it but still the same problem, I will try using a SNES/AV Famicom/N64/Gamecube standard composite cable if any my friends have one to borrow and try and hear if the game is excecuting.

I had a weird pad-related SNES issue today... I was playing Super Metroid, and the official SNES pad I have was acting up, d-pad down keeps sticking. So I unpugged it, and put a third party one (which I've been using for years without issue). The game appears to still be running, but won't respond to pad input, so I reboot... and all my saves are wiped. Gutted. I have no idea whether it was a jolt to the cart that did it or what, but I'm kind of wary of putting in all the hours into Metroid again.
