Hello everyone, i'm a first time poster here and to be honest i am no good in modding. (in fact i never So .. i did the next best thing, i bought a 1chip Super Famicom with the superCIC and IGR mod from ebay. (The guy had tons of positive reviews and no negatives and he mods all the time so i don't think he is trying to scam me. Well first up it seems a legit 1chip console, i didnt open it up yet but the image is a bit crisper on my framemeister than my other modded PAL SNES. I have to mention that i am using a sega megadrive 1 Power supply (pal) which outputs 10 V DC with the correct polarity and it works flawlessly. So in short : 1.) 1chip Super Famicom 2.) SUPERCIC mod 3.) IGR mod 4.) PAL SNES controller (works perfectly ingame, so i believe this should be ok) What are my problems : - I cannot switch 50hz/60hz/auto mode by pressing the reset button on the console itself (works perfectly on my other snes) - IGR normal reset works but after resetting a few times in rapid succession i get graphics corruption (maybe that is normal ...) - IGR long reset does a simple reset, in any case when i use my super UFO cart it never gets back to the menu (its like a cheap everdrive cart) - IGR auto mode seems to be outputting 60 Hz. (according to my framemeister) - When inserting my Japanese cart of Super Metroid all my saves were gone. I measured out the battery and it gives a rock solid 3 volts. i've used the cart constantly and i never had that happen before. The new "test" saves i made are still present after a few hours of putting the cart aside. (i'll test again this evening). - In the Secret of Mana (PAL) i switch the console to 60 hz after it has booted but once i die i still get the message "this game pack is not designed for this console". - IGR region lockout toggle is not possible, the console does not react on this. - If i use a few IGR combinations after each other suddenly no IGR combinations are accepted anymore, i cannot switch 50/60 hz nor do a reset. Basically the only things that work with the IGR mod is : -50Hz -60Hz -Auto Mode (but seems to be 60 Hz, i'll have to test this further) -Normal reset Can anyone tell me what things are normal and what other things i can check or do so you people can figure out was is going wrong ? I haven't opened the console yet, i can try, not sure if i can assemble it again later. Thanks for any input you may give.
Basically, the IGR does not have a 'auto mode' if you use the initial code by Ikari. The combination L+R+Sel+B returns you back into passing through the SuperCIC-mode. (IGR and SuperCIC work in a master-slave-relationship according to the mode, where the IGR is the master). I assume that you have the code made by Ikari: After each power cycle the IGR starts up in the SuperCIC-mode, where you can switch the mode using the reset button. After you have changed the mode with L+R+Sel+(A or Y) pressing the reset button changes the SuperCIC mode but you cannot see it because the IGR does not pass through this mode. You have to do that with L+R+Sel+B. According the Super Ufo: I don't know what is in there. Maybe it is a SuperCIC-key with active pairmode. Pairmode means, that the SuperCIC-lock does not react on reset button as a modechanger. In normal operation of the SuperCIC-lock made a long reset if the PIC detects double pressing the reset button. This is done by the IGR when you press L+R+Sel+X. In pairmode the SuperCIC detects simply two reset button pushes and makes two resets out of it and not a long reset. Secret of Mana checks the region bit if you die. Hence, if the console is running in 60Hz you need a region patching to avoid "This Gamepak is not designed [...]". Or you have to switch quickly back to 50Hz right before the startup appears.
First, thanks for the response. I tied opening the console bit my gamebit is just too small. I got a strange issue only when using the supercic and not the IGR. When i manually set my console to 60hz by using the normal reset button, yoshis island starts up correctly in 50hz then switches over to 60hz. Once the yoshis island intro plays in 60hz the screen shakes up and down. The game itself plays correctly. When i try the same game on my other pal snes supercic modded console it works perfectly even when it runs in 60hz mode. No other game i own seems to behave this odd except the ones like super mario world that has glitches in 60hz. What could cause this. I use a pal rgb cable for the pal console and a ntsc-u rgb cable for the super famicom. Thx.
You'll need a 4.2mm (or 4.5mm) gamebit to open an SNES. The frequency switching on reset is actually completely normal. If you connect pin 4 of the SuperCIC to 5v, it's designed to boot the game in its native frequency, then switch over after ~9 seconds if you've specified a different one. This is to help get around any region protection that some games have which prevents you from starting the game at the wrong frequency. Therefore, it basically assures 100% compatibility (although granted there are other factors at play as far as region lockout tricks, but those are generally overcome by the SuperCIC, too). There's a more specific explanation of what the SuperCIC does in each mode here (near the bottom): http://wolfsoft.de/wordpress/?p=603 As for why your other console doesn't do that, pin4 of the SuperCIC will be connected to ground. I'm not sure about the video output glitches, though. You're going to have to be more specific on the "screen shaking up and down" (I assume that Yoshi's Island, being a Super-FX game, doesn't like being run at a non-native frequency, assuming you're playing a PAL version) and the other glitches that you have in games such as Super Mario World (although again, I assume it's just the game being picky about running at a non-native frequency - some games will do that).
