i really like perfect dark for the n64, but those light/lense flares drive me insane. i want to get rid of them or disable them. i dont want to play the game on an emulator, i want to play it on the n64 console.
what would be the best way to go about getting rid of them.

i tend to obsessively collect video game development stuff, so i have backup units and development hardware if that helps. that said i dont know how to use any of it.

is it possible to back the game up on my computer, alter it, then dump it to a cart and have it be playable. what hardware do i need to do that.

i used to do the same sort of thing with pc games and a hex editor, i just dont know anything about videogame consoles.

if anyone could help me get started that would be great.
    thank you

Would you care to share it with the rest of the class?

i havent done it yet, but apparently i can change the rom using a hex editor, then load it on a flash cart or backup device and play it on the n64...maybe. i dont know where i put my flash carts, i have a doctor 64 in front of me but i cant find the manual... i was told to look at shootersforever.com someone wrote a program that allows you to edit perfectdark or maybe goldeneye for emulation. i figure im just trying to change one texture, it shouldnt be mind bendingly hard? if these guys are adding in whole new levels, changing textures, models and sounds in the same game...maybe i might get away with it too.

A friend of mine once had Perfect Dark on the N64 and claimed to have "added" the "baby faces" to random boxes on the floor on one level. I never played it again, so didn't know whether it was a hack or bullshit, but if not the latter, then it's definitely possible...
    Try this maybe: http://www.gamefaqs.com/n64/198275-perfect-dark/faqs/38672
