Hello everyone , That's my 1st topic as well as 1st ever post on these forums. For a few days I've been looking for a solution to my problem, but I found nothing helpful to be honest :/. I started thinking about buying an original Xbox (my 1st Xbox ever) to play some exclusive titles I've never had a chance of experiencing (Ninja Gaiden, Breakdown, Halo). So let's get to my problem. I've bought my 32"TV in the beginning of this year and it only have an HDMI and RCA sockets (Yellow, Red & White). I didn't had such problem when I decided to replay some of my PS2 & Wii games as their's a lot of "plug & play" converters/upscalers (PS2 to HDMI & Wii to HDMI) that you simply insert in the back where the video cable normally is inserted and place HDMI cable into it. They look like this: http://img.eachbuyer.com/350-350/i/m/im78_a.jpg Unfortunately there's no such thing for the original Xbox . So, my question to you guys is: what would be the easiest way of connecting the original xbox to TV using HDMI cable ? I'm asking about HDMI cable as RCA would make it really blurry :/. Besides, I'd rather want to upscale it. Thank you all in advance for any answers provided as this issue is killing me for the last couple of days ;P.
Your easiest option would be to use the composite cable. That shouldn't look too bad. Other than that, you'd have to get an RGB lead and spend a lot of money on a decent upscaler (check Yakumo's Framemeister sales thread). An RGB monitor would probably be cheaper, though! By the way, your post was auto-moderated - probably due to the image link (the auto-moderation system stops spam but it clamps down on first-post links). You may find your next few posts don't show up immediately. A moderator will get round to approving them, don't worry!
There are a lot of converters/upscalers to HDMI with component input. If you buy converter you need to force Xbox to output progressive signal all the time (dunno if some games can not be played in progressive mode). Upscaler can process interlaced input. Also Wii2HDMI could be easily converted for any component input (I did it for PS2).
The best possible output from the Xbox is via component. Add a component to HDMI converter and you're all set. The official HD box from Microsoft or the cables are not easy to find though. Don't buy any third party cables as they usually have issues displaying anything above 480p correctly.
YMMV, but I've been using some Monster component cables ($10 at a used game shop) for a few years and haven't had a single problem. The connectors are tight and a pain to get into the TV, but other than that they work great. I did have some generic cables from eBay and they were garbage.
How long you had them? One I had was dog shit. I just wouldn't tell others to buy them... Oh they have no shieling either, so people who have removed their shielding in the Xbox for a case swap, will start playing with snow
