Yes, just get on the train to Akihabara, you will be spoilt for choice

    If you look around enough

The Japanese are very xenophobic, I had enough people talking to me like I am stupid or staring at me for being white. Just don't be put off by it, rise above it.

Most places have signs in English, but it helps to at least get some Japanese under your belt.

Unfortunately, no. The capital city Tokyo stopped selling games back in 2006. Only the cities of Osaka, Fukuoka and Sendai sell games now.

Sarcasm aside, no... you usually can't find these things for sale. If you do, it's rare.

Let's just say if you go into a night club in Roppongi looking for girls... you've be a VERY happy man if you're black and taller than the average Japanese man. As a tourist, you'll be totally fine. Tokyo is fairly tourist friendly.

In Tokyo, it's pretty easy for you. There are tons of signs and services in English. In restaurants, they often have pictures and/or plastic models of the food. Just point and smile.

It'll either be really hot and muggy or pissing down with rain. I was sort of lucky when I went last summer and only got rain a couple of days while I was in Japan. (end of July/beginning of August). It's also when most Japanese will be on holiday due to the school summer holidays lasting the whole of August, which means some hotels rates will rise and tickets for travel will be harder to get, but there are also some school holiday deals for travel which don't apply solely to students.

This is a good site to have a look at for when the best time to travel to Japan is (and anything else about Japan in general):

I swear you've been in Japan so long you're starting to talk like a Vietnam era war movie stereotype prostitute.. And I rather enjoy it.

There are alot of market stalls (holder of cheap stuff) that hold the games behind the counter and wont get them out simply because your not Japanese. You may have to bribe some places just to see them!

Akihabara is the "geek" district. Electronics, manga, computers, games.

Seriously -- why would you think that?

Like I said earlier, "the capital city Tokyo stopped selling games back in 2006. Only the cities of Osaka, Fukuoka and Sendai sell games now."

It's true the the old electronic district of Akihabara in Tokyo used to be a "hot-spot" for video games, but now the game shops have been moving out since 2006. In their place are now dozens of "maid cafes" and "cos-play" stores. If you look Asian, they might think you are Japanese and show you the secret game collections hidden behind the counters... but you will probably have to pay a bribe, as Cyantist said, or perform special "actions".

PS. Please look up the the word "sarcasm", for I am being very sarcastic.

I'm not completely sarcastic though. The retro game scene there IS fading. EVERY single retro game shop that I know of has much less stock than it did just a few years ago. It's still light years ahead of most other countries, but what was easy to find in shops in the past can be very difficult now.

i kinda disagree. few years back, retro games where more common in generally, but there where less shops deticated to retro games only as there are now. sure the whole pricing compared to the earlier days, is then again an other story.

I think the problem is the games that we consider retro are now REALLY retro (or even a novelty). Saturn & PS1 (and even PS2 to an extent) are retro-ish, and bring in a lot more traffic. Well, maybe not definitely, but 8 & 16-bit are pretty much relics now.
