I have two original Xbox consoles that i would like to softmod and upgrade their HDD's.
    I have a 1.0 and a 1.6.
One is a 1.0 with a 2001-11-05 MFG date. (Can have TSOP)
One is a 1.6 with a 2005-04-09 MFG date. (Cannot have TSOP)
I tried to swap hard drives from other Xbox consoles and i got error 06. (My 1.0 Xbox has a 3944 kernel and it shows no number for it's error).
Both have 5960 dashboards on them.
And i do have a official Xbox Memory Unit but i don't know how to connect to a computer so i need a flash drive for my Xbox for softmodding, and i have a flashdrive and a spare Xbox controller plug.
And what pinouts do i solder to the USB connector with a flash drive after i cut it along with the Xbox plug. Send a picture. And i don't have Splinter Cell. And i don't have an old desktop computer to connect the Xbox's stock HDD with.
Would this work? I'm also new to original Xbox modding also.

Ok first off, you can't swap HDDs between unmodded Xboxes because they're locked to work only with their original console.

Secondly, if the only mean you have is to hotswap with an old computer, then you don't need to deal with an exploitable game and a hacked savegame. As such, you won't need to modify any cable or find a way to upload the save to the memory card.

Just lookup a hotswap tutorial with Xboxhdm and Ndure. From there, you'll be able to modify the C partition to install the softmod, and you'll be free to install whichever dash you prefer afterwards.

Or you could softmod by the hotswap method.

Too much effort ultimately for nothing.
    Stevie, just buy this:
    http://www.ebay.nl/itm/USB-Female-S...troller-Port-Adapter-Cable-Cord-/231716287438
    http://www.ebay.nl/itm/New-4-Pin-ID...801292?hash=item2a527192cc:g:PfMAAOSwpdpVeTab
and an IDE hard drive. You also need an old 128mb usb stick or alternatively you can connect a psp to it and use its memory card to put softmod on Xbox hard drive. Afterwards just follow a tutorial and boom.

Not much effort at all, if done right it takes all of 30 minutes. 100% free, no need for usb cables, flash drives, action replay, etc

On the other hand, if you're not in a hurry, can wait for shipping and are willing to pay for usb adapters, exploitable games and so on then that would be slightly easier.
Also, while you're at it you should buy an IDE to SATA adapter and max those boxes out with 2TB SATA drives.

SATA adapters are the key to killing your Xbox. One wrong move, it fries like a chicken.

What exactly are you suggesting he should do? Prepare a new HDD with Chimp? He doesn't have an exploitable game, so he doesn't have any mean to run unsigned code. The hotswap method is the only thing he can do.

That's not really true, you should know better when making such claims.
That doesn't mean that you shouldn't pay attention when making any sort of mods. You should always carefully read any and all guides/threads/sources related to your project before taking action.

Splinter Cell is like a dollar though.
A new person that tries it has alot of chance to screw up (like the person above.)

Yes, there is a chance of screwing up for a newbie. And that's exactly why you you should always carefully read any and all guides/threads/sources related to your project before taking action.
