I compose music on my computer in my spare time as a hobby. Just though I'd post my latest song http://drakonmusic.com/rare/Disco%20Dogs.mp3 let me know what you think
Good job you're not a deep sea diver, then! OK, back to the topic... Well, I wouldn't call it a song - songs require lyrics! ;-) Not a bad piece, though - well done  It reminds me a little of the Knight Rider theme, hehe. What synths/software did you use?
I use fruity loops. And I've gone through years of people not accepting my music because it has no lyrics. I just prefer people to listen to my music because of the melody and not because they like the lyrics. To me music is just about music. Samples are sort of all over the chart. A lot of the samples I got from the systrus plugin with the program (I think that's what it's called). And some of the others I just took from a demo song that came with it. Of course all of the composing I did myself. again thanks for all the nice input!
Ah yes, FL - cool! Music doesn't have to have lyrics - that's stupid. Classical music doesn't! There's a fair bit of Jazz without, too! And of course, lots of Dance music of all different sub-genres. Do what you feel - don't listen to them! ;-)
I was just about to say, why would people not like music because it doesn't have singing?? Some people musn't listen to much music... Like the song, well structured and made, especially if it is just a hobby. Only criticism is that it doesn't push any boundaries, but for a hobby I guess it doesn't need to! Have you used any other DAWs bar FL, Reason/Logic?
well I don't even know what a DAW is so probably not. FL is good enough for my purposes. And thanks again to everyone for the nice comments
FL is good for lots of things, and there are enough professional guys who use it, especially in electronic/dance genres Your song is cool! Sounds way better than many amateur productions.
Digital Audio Workstation. Usually refers to hardware but in this sense he means an all-in-one production package in the software form, basically. Reason is good, but fiddly. It requires knowledge of oscillators, different waveforms, effects units, patch cables and such. Fruityloops is sometimes seen as a noob tool for its simplicity, but it has a large following even with the more seasoned digital musician - and a huge patch library.
wow thanks for the info. Yeah I'm no good with complicated stuff. I just like to compose and thanks a lot tatujin and kami68k
This is the reason i was asking, to see what if I could get a comparison of FL to Reason. I've not tried FL yet, I'll have to download the demo when I get a chance. You're spot on about Reason's complexity, some of the instruments can be a bit...hard. Though they are powerful. Have you tried Ableton? Another one I've not tried.
Nice song and pretty well made. I like stuff with no lyrics as thats the kinda music i like to make. Right now i'm just learning to use FL through online tutorials.
I havn't tried ableton. Honestly I only use the simple functions of FL even FL gets complicated when you get into advanced stuff. To learn how to use it I just loaded the demo songs that came with it and looked at how they work.
