IBM Thinkpad R30 BIOS SVP *SOLVED* Hi. I have an IBM R30 Laptop and I can not get into the BIOS because the SVP (Supervisor Password) is unknown. I removed the SVP chip, and I was wondering it it was possible to flash a new one. I need to buy this: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380313431181&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT However, I reckon I could make my own using my EEPROM flasher. Thing is, I need to know the code that they put on it. I dont know if the seller is bullshyting or telling the truth. Any ideas?
Guide: http://sodoityourself.com/hacking-ibm-thinkpad-bios-password/ Software: http://www.allservice.ro/forum/viewtopic.php?t=52&sid=48e4aba540accde68bda626f587df1d7 If you have a programmer to read the chip, you should be able to skip pretty much all of the guide (it mostly explains reading the chip) and just read the password at the offset given at the end of the guide.
I tried that circuit. I got nothing out of it. Could not find the chip either way... The serial plug and wiring is back to front. I do not know what pin goes where because the person who designed it screwed up! I will try it again, but the pinout like I said on the RS-232 plug is back to front. I was wondering if I could use my programmer to read it. Once read and dumped, I can decode the .bin file with that program... I dont think it is possible though, because you need specific settings for each chip. Unless, you can customise the software for each pin to do what.
OK I dumped the SVP password. The laptop is from Holmsglen TAFE in Melbourne. IBM R30. I bought it on eBay as 'Faulty'. Thought I would say that because there bastards for not telling me the code. I told them I could hack it, so I will be calling them with a surprise... The code is: ffLKf However, it does not work. It still will not let me in... Tried slower BPS and settings, I can not add a space in front or back of the code so I dunno. I dumped it 3 times. All the same. With and without a HDD... And yes, I tried it as a case sensitive. I tried many times and many alterations... Retarded. What a waste of time and money on the thing... *EDIT* I got it. Needed to set it to an R Series code or something... IT WORKS, AND I AM IN THE BIOS! FINALLY. THANK YOU. HUGE THANKS TO ARTU-R_MAN! The new code is: CSDRED
know anyone with another R30? you could just copy the chip that has a password you know - thats just what you ebay guy is doing.
