I think now is the perfect time to act on a childhood dream of mine. Make my own Mega Man Game.

If you've been reading around you'll know I'm very disapointed with the direction they're going in for Mega Man 9. I'm sure alot of people are.
My disapointment led me to finally act on this dream.

But I have no programing knowledge, I can't do the music, Art ect. So I need people for that. I can do the story and possibly stage layouts. But everything else I can't do.

Would anybody be interested in helping me fulfill a childhood fantasy?

If you want people to help you, you need to give more information than that.

1)What platform will it be on... are you making a homebrew Genesis game or a PC game?
2)Do you want to make new sprites, or just use ones ripped from other mega man games?
3)What IS that story? What ARE the stage layouts?
4)Are you using a game engine, or making your own?

You can't just decide to make a game without thinking it through first...

Ok then to answer the questions

1)What platform will it be on... are you making a homebrew Genesis game or a PC game?
I'm thinking PC since it's easiest. Then we can port it maybe to Dreamcast or other homebrew friendly platform

2)Do you want to make new sprites, or just use ones ripped from other mega man games?
Probably just use the Sprites from 8 or at least that art style.

3)What IS that story? What ARE the stage layouts?
The intro would be Bass's Power Fighter's ending essentally doing what everyone wanted from Mega Man 9 to begin with....Bridge the Gap between the Original Series and X. The Details of how to link this (and explain X and Zero) we'll have to work out. Since I want to stay true to the series.

The stage layouts I'm thinking along the lines of Mega Man VI where there's true boss and false boss. Maybe since I want to use this to link to the X series I'd like to incorperate elements from X into this game.

4)Are you using a game engine, or making your own?
We'll see as more people come on board.

Everyone seems to make their fan games in The Games Factory (1 or 2), because it's easy - especially for sprite-based games.

    There's a demo here:

Another obvious choice would be Gamemaker... you don't really need to know any programming to use it.

    I don't really like gamemaker.

even with the programing I'd still need a few original sprites.

like i said in the other thread, if you need my help making music, let me know. Im pretty sure i have sprite sheets for MM, Proto, Bass and stage enemies from MM8 and R&F (<-- used the same sprites as 8)on my old computer at my moms. Ill see if i can dig them up when i go over there next time. Ive also messed around with The Games Factory, so if you decide to go that route i can also assist with that. I actually started working on my own MM fangame ( and a metroid fangame), but i never worked on them past getting the basic engine up and running. I would be glad to help, just let me know!!

What's the premise for your fan game?

Mine is Bass turns out to be the first reploid (since he defies wily) and Dr Light is doing research on him and starts working on X. While Dr Wily goes totally apeshit and unleashed 2x more Robot masters than he ever has.

    ......then we meet Zero.

I really cant recall too well , i was working on them when i was 16 or 17 so probably 1999-2000, but it was intended to close the storyline gap between the classic series and the x series. something along the lines of while light designed X ( or in the case of my storyline, upgraded/redesigned MM into X) , and then locked him away or whatnot to run all those tests and crap ( havent really played MM or MMX in a while, kinda sketchy about the details) wily did the same thing with proto, who was more than willing seeing as how he was a little pissed off about light choosing MM for the X project rather than him, and created Zero. I seem to remember having some plot hook i was gonna throw into mine where Bass ended up becoming Sigma, but i might be remembering wrong about that one. I wish i could remember what i had planned with full detail, but as i said, it was a long time ago when i was working on that. Sorry for subjecting you to that bit of lameness, lol.

There are countless other thousands of people like you who want to make a game, but don't have the knowledge.

Well, you're SOL. Sorry, but the only way games get made is when somebody busts their ass for a long time and it doesn't sound like it will be you.

DUDE THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I AM PLANING

Awesome though my version of the story has Bass actually being the first reploid. Thus a Dr Wily invention......

Im kinda debating if i have the time or not ( i work 2 jobs) to do a game or not. I havent used Games factory or MMF in a few years, and it does take FOREVER, especially if im the only one working on it. I could probably get an engine going and make a level editor for it, thus enabling other people besides me to design the levels. I suck at drawing sprites, im OK with backgrounds, and im pretty good with shots, weapons, fire and other effects like that. If enough people show an interest in contributing to this im definately down for it. I know some people here ( not pointing any fingers:icon_bigg) will say it wont happen, but look at what those guys at eidolons tavern are doing with their RPG. as far as platform goes, it would be PC, due to the fact that i dont have the programming knowledge, tools, or skills it takes to design/port code ( especially TGF/MMF stuff, dont even think its possible) to snes, psx, etc.

Any labor of love project you can do that. It's just a matter of finding people who love Mega Man enough to work on a fan game in their spare time.

Or, I could do what i was just saying and make it myself with help and input from others.

dammit why does everyone have such a negative stance towards this??? What happened to support from fellow forum members, or do you guys really not want this to happen that badly??

Simply put: there are too many people who fail to realize exactly how much of a pain in the ass it is to finish a game. Sure, it starts off all fun and games, but when it becomes less fun, people start bailing and projects start failing. If you have the dedication and drive to see this through to the end, great. However, understand that many of us have seen such aspirations before which have culminated in nothing.
