This happened last week but I just found a few YouTube videos in English on the matter. Last week a sports car and Ferrari club was doing a convoy down the local motorway (that I use each day) on their way to a convention in Hiroshima. They were travelling faster than me and I was doing 100mph (160kmp/h) when they took over. Anyway, just past were I come off the motorway (so I never saw the real deal), one of the cars lost control causing a massive crash. Amazingly nobody was injured.

The title of this video says Tokyo but that's not true. The cash took place in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi prefecture.

Great close up view of the ruined cars (no sound)

Nice video of the cars passing before they crashed.

The real shitter part of this is I bet the F*ng local council now put speed cameras on that section of the road

Yeah, that's the one  I'm just glad the idiots crashed just after i got off the motorway. God only knows how the first car driver lost control. It's not a hard road to drive on at all. They say they were doing around 120mph which I've also done down there on an empty night. The only way the driver could have lost control is if he had all the traction control options off (stupid thing to do on a public road) or he's just a wank driver. Both are quite possible :)

But like you said, Jamtex. It wasn't all a loss. One less annoying Toyota Vitz (Yaris) to get in the way.

Can you legally go that fast on the motorways over there?

The news report said it had been raining, although they must have been giving it some to have caused so much damage. Still serves them right.

Although there is a set of traffic lights off new route 4 which drivers drivnig down route 4 tend to not notice (as the road that crosses it is a single carriageway road with no markings) and there have been a number of accidents. I remember cycling across it once, when a car rushed behind me that had just not stopped and he continued on, since then I tend to cross the road using the footbridge.

I was told that not too many years ago, speeding could only be stopped by the police if someone complained or they did something that was dangerous. Nowdays they are more quick to fine people although around here people tend to go 20kph faster then the speed limit (except on side streets where they do tend to go 30kph).

Nope, the speed limit is a pathetic 80km/h on some sections and 120km/h on others. That doesn't stop people speeding though.

Nah, it wasn't raining that day. the roads were dry. You can see from the videos that the roads are dry. Typical news talking bull shit to make the story more interesting.

There was an English article somewhere that says he lost control when overtaking a car on a hill. Guess he missed class that day (which is day 3 of drivers ed I think).

Some sources are pricing the incident at 2.5 million GBP. o_O

I find it amazing how no body got hurt.. to lose control they would of had to be going pretty fast, without traction control.

Going up a hill? there are no hills on that section. IMO the guy just fucked up while driving on a normal stretch of road.

Those are for revenue generation, not speed prevention.

according to the report on CNN they were trying to pass a slower car when the crash happened and speculated that it was the prius they were trying to pass and was involved in the crash

It wouldn't surprise me if the Prius just got in the way. I find most Prius drivers to be bloody awful drivers and I'm not just talking about driving way too slow. I'm talking about lane drifting, no signalling and sudden stops.

Apparently the guy in the lead F355 which caused the crash was cut up by an idiot driving a Subaru Impreza Estate erratically. The early reports say it was a westerner ;) ^

hehehehe, To be honest I did think about joining their "race" as they bombed past me but since my exit was coming up I had to pass. I'm so glad I did now.
