If I combine two of these, will the cable work?

    Hello.
I was looking for GG Gear-to-Gear link cables today and discovered that they cost about $25. I don't want to spend that much on a cable. I did notice that there was an adapter for the device that allowed player 2 to play when using the SMS adapter. I was wondering, if I combine the following products will I be able to use it?

    Q(2). SMS GG Player 2 cables: http://www.ebay.com/itm/170696919191
    Q(1). 9-Pin Serial Female to Female: http://www.ebay.com/itm/110985625079

The only problem I see is that if the cable does not connect to all of the pins on the extension, however I don't have one to see.

It should not give any problem, the extension cable female to female is suppose to come with all the pins wired. So I see not problem in use it.

I was actually referring to the GG port. Unless mistaken, I count 10 pins inside the port (5 on each side) and the converter only has 9 a 9 pin out. I want to make sure the 10th pin isn't important or used when connecting two gg units.

Also, it is just a 10 pin M/M cable right? How come no one has made a 3rd party accessory? I understand it isn't as big a market as game boy, but there is no competition atm. Anyone who wants one for a decent price would buy it from the 3rd party.

The converter is made to use a sega genesis controller, or a master system, If the controller make the game gear think is linked to play master system is suppose to work. But again I haven't linked a game gear. For what I read about the cable by other sellers it should work with the master system converter and game gear games but I dont have a cable to check out, maybe is fake and dont work with game gear games.

Actually I do not think it will work as the G to G cable is actually some kind of crossover cable, it is not straight wired.

The adapter you linked is made to use a sms controller as player 2 on a GG, this is particularly useful when you have a Gear Master converter and a GGTV board and you want to play 2 players SMS games on the gg.

I know what it is made for. Thanks to the page you linked, I found a schematic of the other cable which is pin to pin (1-1, 2-2, 3-3, ect.). I also don't think port 10 is used at all (what does NC mean?). The page you showed looks like it might not work with the extension, but what if I soldered a wire to each pin as shown in the schematic? Then I would think it would actually work (unless there is something I am Missing).

I figured it meant something along those lines. So in that case it would be possible.

couldn't you just buy two of those cables, hack them up and connect the two game gear ends together?

Could do that, but then the cable would be very short.
Could also modify the DB9 cable to have the proper wiring.

But then would not it be less trouble to just get a real GtG cable? The real cable is 10$ more, not counting possible saving on shipping.

To save 10$ you get extra work and a clunky setup, not worth it i think.

You have a point, but where is the fun in just buying it? Modifying the DB9 would be pretty simple too. Not to mention I get the features of the original SMS adapter too and get a player 2 slot for those games.
