I've never played one of these, but I am intrigued by anything capable of generating such a frenzy.

Is the multiplayer the primary draw? If so, would someone in the US with a JPN copy of the game be able to participate, or is it local multiplayer like DQIX? Worth importing?

The only Monter Hunter I've played is Tri for Wii which is very addictive. It would be great if they release a Monster Hunter for 3DS.
