Good thing you're living in Shibuya... you can walk to the 24 hour post office, and will soon love those off hours they're open.

Surley easier to walk to the one nearer akihabara... pick up a box on your shopping trip, have some celair and tape with you and you can post the items out without having to lug them back to Shibuya... :p

17,800 yen at Trader's in Akihabara, I was damn near gonna buy it even but changed my mind while at the counter :smt030

And just what are you supposed to use for packing? Air? Or should he lug around a load of bubble wrap too?

I picked up my mint Radient Silvergun for 13'000 or was it 15'000 in December. So you should easily be able to get one for under 20'000.

Japanese Post Offices don't sell packing materia? Probably just as well 'cause ours have the most disgusting prices imaginable.

Well, I do remember allocating a whole day of my Japan journey just to get packing materials - and it was indeed not that easy to come across suitable boxes, thankfully the owner of the gaijin house helped me. Which came in handy, as I had bought this:

Yikes! I hope it wasn't windy 'cause that tower looks unstable ;)

That looks like the best day out shopping EVER, I think you should have hired a cargo plane ;)

Ok, I've totally thought of two things that I want...but I don't know how much they go for there...so...yeah...but I've got money!

    A Neo Geo AES (maybe?)

A PC Engine CD Unit, and one of the later system cards (Arcade Perhaps?)

I mean...anyone know what the going rate for a Japanese AES is?

I've managed it. :p Just go to Tokyo Hands and buy some packing materials (I did mention Celair a foam sheet type affair), steal some newspaper from a street corner on paper day (screw up for packing) and you can pick up boxes walking down the road in Akihabara... Having a large ruck sack helps. :D

You can pack the items in the post office too. :) Simple huh?

Well that's a great idea if you want to look like a bloody typical idiotic tourist. Far to much pissing about. What I do is buy stuff then take it home. At 8pm most shops put out the boxes they don't need for pick up in the morning. That's where you get packing materials from. The boxes are normally flat packed too making them easy to carry home. I've been doing it that way for years. Then the next day you just take everything down to the post office for posting. There is no looking like a tramp during the day searching for boxes. no need to steel any news papers and no need to look like a tit building a box and packing everything in to it at a busy post office.

I completely agree. Why look like a complete tool box lugging that crap around (30 minutes to Akiba from where he's going to live) when he'll be walking distance (10 minutes to either) from Tokyu Hands AND the 24 hour post office (which does sell minimal packaging supplies, BTW).

I am not looking for anything specific, but some cheap (500 yen or less) Saturn imports would be nice, but no RPGs or dating sims. Shooters, fighters, racing will work.

Shmups under 500 yen isn't going to be easy... apart from Darius Gaiden and Layer Section (both released in PAL/US as well). Though there's plenty of fighting/racing to be found at that price.

I figured that, but I thought I'd include it for the hell of it.

Mail all your clothes home and bring home the 160 pounds allowed in your luggage.

Always have some books on top, or magazines you like. I always say I'm a student with some books and my games. They never bother me in customs.

If you can arrange, it's about $80-100 for another suitcase of about 80 pounds. Far cheaper than mail. Given you can have your suitcases picked up and trucked to the airport, sometimes have even five suitcases.
