IGS PolyGameMaster System

Discussion in 'Rare and Obscure Gaming' started by SuperFunkNinjaYoshiiKun, May 9, 2004.

  1. Indeed, a Chinese arcade system the IGS PolyGameMaster (PGM) System. Looks like a MVS. But red, and funky.

So then, has anyone ever seen/played on this system? :smt017

Anyone got any other info about it?

Anyways, here a link to the site, with some info on other cart-based (and GDRom wooo) arcade boards. And the Hyper Neo64 is a bit of a beast.

EDIT: Found a list of games, but matey can't speak Chinese, so not sure what most are - http://targets.mame.net/igs.html

Edit2: :smt033 Found this, has piccies... Mmm, 2d Scrolly shooters. Now where can I get one?

I've played quite a few games on this system. They are all 2D sprite based. Most games look like the old Capcom Knights Of The Round type games but with more animation and bigger sprites. The IGS games can normally be found on the retro floors of independant Japanese game centers not the ones which are owned by Sega, Namco, Taito or Capcom.

Ah, I was browsing around system16.com the other day and noticed this system among the other oddballs... I found it intriguing, especially as one of the games looks a *lot* like Metal Slug... I'd hate to say but it doesnt surprise me that this comes from China.

  4. Oh, so THAT'S the arcade system responsible for DoDonpachi 2. I'm not sure if any of you ever played it, but if you liked Donpachi, DoDonpachi, or Dodonpachi: Dai-ou-jou, you will hate this. I don't even think that Cave/Atlus developed it, I think it was another company, but they basically took everything that was fun in DDP and said, we don't need this. I guess it's sort of fitting the game is on a chinese clone of the MVS.. :smt043

The IGS is Korean, who are moving to become a serious gaming competitor in the world marketplace.

The IGS as you say is very similar to the MVS, though quite powerfull, game "Martial Masters" has animation near SF3:TS standard. The Metal Slug esque game Demon Front is said to be very good, ive yet to play it. Problem is it has been supersseded by the Atomiswave, with the Knights of Valour series moving to that system, and DoDonPachi : Beestorm was a bit below par, there's a few games making it worthy (some emulated ), best getting it cheap if you can, its nice but not world beating.

All of cave's post-DDP2 games are on the IGS/PGM hardware, they're just not eschewing carts in favour of a one-piece design.

There are pics of Demon Front (the best game for the system) and DoDonPachi2 on my site.
