yes, that's right, after years of otakuness, finally i am goin! sept 28 - oct 8 .. initially to tokyo, but im going to get a JR pass and go to.. some other places too (visiting people from some bands and some other stuff, going to stay wherever i'll have a floor to sleep on.. maybe all the way up to nagoya, not sure) ... where do i need to go, outside akihabara, to find some old PCE/FmTowns/Sega console loot? who wants to get beers? who wants to come see Green Milk With The Planet Orange and Melt Banana play in kyoto? (i think im touring with them or something) wooooooo!
Congratulations !!! I hope you have a great time on your trip. If you are going to Osaka (Close to Kyoto) check out Den Den Town. It'S just like Akihabara but cheaper I hear. Yakumo
i'm pretty sure i'm going to hit osaka for at least a day, will make a point to hit Den Den Town if possible (going to try to split each day 50/50: classic historical sites vs modern/shopping).. as well as all the *-Off stores i can find (i heard there's Book-Off as well as Hard-Off?) w00t!
If youre looking for book-off/hard-off id recommend finding out how to get to them before you go (unless youre really good at asking questions in Japanese). They tend to be quite out of the way of the major rail stations. It took me 2 attempts of about 3 hrs each to finally locate the Hard-Off near Narimas Station in Tokyo using my broken Japanese. They have maps online of their stores, but they suck for the most part (they leave out a lot of streets). But its WELL worth youre time though :icon_bigg I snagged a "junk" white saturn for 1000 yen complete with controller & hookups, and god knows how many "junk" games for 100 yen each. So far Ive found mabe one non-working game.
Hard off's junk games can sometimes be brand new !! Manga Soko is better but there isn't any in Tokyo. They have KIZU stickers on almost everything which means the disc is scratched. I have yet to buy a game from there that IS scratched ! I wonder why they put those stickers on? Yakumo
