I'm looking for a 2.1 sound system, consisting of 1 sub-woofer and 2 speakers. It should have a remote control and at least 2 connectors for my PC and a video game console. It doesn't matter if the inputs are RCA connectors or speaker jacks. The system should cost between 50 and 100 Euro. Does anyone have a good hint for me? Thanks for your help
I was just in the market for such a thing actually. I broke down and bought a $40 5.1 receiver from a nearby thrift store only to find out that in order to use the subwoofer you kinda need the remote that it didn't come with. Other than that I was extremely pleased with the sound quality when paired with my existing set of speakers salvaged from a Logitech Z-680 5.1 set I had the amp go out on. This was the only thing on Newegg I could find that was 2.1 and had a wireless remote: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836116054 Free shipping at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Insp...8CGI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1297125435&sr=8-1 (Yes I know you aren't in the states, these are just for reference) The speakers don't have many reviews around, at all. The few tidbits I could find didn't exactly put it in a favorable light either. At 19w for the sub and 7w for the speakers you aren't looking at the best sounding speakers or anything with real "oomph". A better set of speakers can be found without the wireless remote as per price and wattage but ultimately there just isn't much as a whole kit. I've seen people do really good jobs by picking up everything piece by piece such as I'm doing. Just need to figure out how to properly wire up my subwoofer and acquire a remote which I'm expecting to pay at least as much as I did for the Aiwa receiver itself (hopefully not). Inputs are a big problem though. Typically you get the red/white cable type inputs or you get a phono plug like a headphone jack. 9 times out of 10 you don't get both as that costs money and cheap speakers don't cost much money (nice circular world it exists in). Personally I never found a wireless remote to be all that useful given that beyond volume up/down you really needed to be able to read the display to see what setting you are modifying. Problem with going for a 5.1 set which will include a good remote with plenty of oomph and enough inputs to make you giddy with joy is that you're looking at $300USD+ for a good set of speakers and a receiver/amp.
http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19113 head to the audio section... i still have those creative ones and i love them! concerning more than one imput, you can have doublers... they cost little and if of good quality don't make noise
Thanks for the feedback. The Inspire T3100 looks interesting, but I don't see a remote control in the package content list. The main problem is to find a set with a (wireless) remote control. When I sit on my couch I don't want to stand up to change the volume. An option would be a wired remote control. It may be possible to extend the cord an leave it nearby the couch. That's still better than nothing. btw, the Creative Inspire 51MF0390AA003 has wireless speakers. I'm not looking for wireless speakers, because they need an extra psu.
Generally I'm not a huge fan of Creative speakers. But the T40's are AMAZING 2.0 speakers. But they haven't had much in decent 2.1 sets in the past few decades if you ask me. To be honest Logitech has always had better 2.1 sets in similar price ranges. I'm not even saying Logitech's all that. But usually for the price they're not bad. Logitech Z2300's for example are probably one of the best 2.1 sets in the $160 range. But if you want better (and there is MUCH better to be had) look for something like Klipsch Promedia 2.1 (~$200 range) But I wouldn't recommend any Creative 2.1 sets in any price bracket. There's always something better IMHO.
this one looks interesting, the subwoofer is huge for a 2.1 system However I wonder how much power it consumes.
From what I read they draw about 15 watts under load (2 watts standby) so I doubt that's going to make much difference on your bill compared to smaller sets. I mean what 50 cents here or there tops? But I'm really only guessing!
Another interesting system is the Creative I-Trigue L3800: http://de.creative.com/products/productarchive.asp?category=924&subcategory=928&product=14097&nav=0 It has an infrared remote control and an additional line-in.
I dunno the price is close to the logitech z2300's and they're nowhere near as powerfull. Seriously 48 Watts RMS total vs 200 Watts RMS total isn't even in the same ballpark! Maximum PC said in their review that the L3800s look great but they dissapoint when they make sound. Maximum PC is pretty decent for reviews. They seem to have the balls to say when something actually sucks instead of "Blank sent us blank to review and they're great" like so many other online "review" sites do these days. My money's still on Logitech for that price. Once again I'm no Logitech fan boy (I'd spend the extra $40 and buy Klipsch Promedia 2.1's hands down) and bigger wattange ratings don't always mean better sound. But they're just completely outgunned here.
that's true, the I-Trigue is a smaller system. I'd definitely go for the Z2300 if Logitech would equip it with a wireless remote control.
Haha, I'm still stuck using my studio room, that being said, these BEHRINGER TRUTHs are damn better than any 2.1 you'd get, esp. when their connected to a mixer allowing me an easy adjustment of volume to each speaker.
Umm... Yeah. Even the cheapest passive set is a LOT more than that, and would require an amp. So it'd be active... and you're talking 250 Euros. Plus they don't have remote. For the purpose, I'd say get a cheap hi-fi amp and speakers. You should be able to pick up a cheap stereo amp and a reasonable pair of bookshelf speakers within your budget - second hand, of course. Purely as an example, a quick eBay search produced the following: Mordaunt Short 302 pair £20 (BIN £40) Yamaha RX-V530 with remote £0.99 (BIN £20) OK, 6.1 is overkill and it has a dirty volume pot (works fine via remote so it's the pot), but you get my point.
Forget all this feng shui crap or having any sense of style and just move the couch closer to the TV or move the TV closer to the couch, or even a little bit of both. Job done. Or maybe, just maybe, get up or alter the SFX via in-game menus?
 Well, I'm not American. back to topic, I often have problems with movies. Some scenes are either too loud or too quiet.
Then in that case you do not want speakers with a remote. You want wireless hadphones. http://www.noisefreeheadphones.com/sennheiser_rs120.htm
You can get TVs with compressors in them, usually called something like dynamic volume control, which will effectively sort that out. You don't want to be sitting there adjusting the volume manually. As to whether you'll find an amp with that feature, I'm not sure, although you may well find a 5.1 amp that does.
