OK, so after deciding on the 64DD and Wondermega systems to start my import collection (I'm in the UK) I went scraping the net to see what I could get my hands on. Yesterday I won a Japanese N64 on eBay. Probably payed over the odds for it, I dunno what it's worth (£34.01 delivered) but I'm happy to pay that much. Being a UK based seller it's certainly cheaper than importing one from Japan mind you!

Now to get me the 64DD and see if I can get the full collection of games. I'm also looking at getting a Japanese FZero-X cartridge so I can use the expansion pack.

I was wondering if anyone in the UK wanted to part with any of theirs and save me import costs? ;)

Also, with the 64DD being magnetic discs, we're going to lose our games eventually aren't we? I don't suppose anyone ever calculated a time as to when the discs and hence the drive would no longer be of any use? I know they say a VHS tape will last around 15-20 years.

I'll look forward to adding to the collection over the coming weeks/months/years :D

DD disks have better magnetic shielding than your average VHS. Also, DD disks are digital, which means that even if a logical block's magnetic potency is diminished, quality is not (as it's binary , there's no spectrum of magnetization which subsequently forms information)

I wouldn't worry too much. Just take into account FDS disks, and how long they last if you treat them right.

De-magnetization should be a remote possibility if you keep your items packed in their case, and preferably within a shielded box/case.

You shouldnt have too much trouble finding the games on ebay. If you just type 64DD it will bring up a lot usually.

Theres only 2 games that are expensive to get & thats japan pro golf tour (or something like that) & Kyojin no doshin 2.

The others are pretty reasonable. Fzero tends to get the most attention, due to it been well known.

You'll love the 64dd if your creative as the more effort you put in, the more your rewarded. For example you can draw a person in mario artist then you can import the graphic into sim city 64 & have that graphic as a person running round in your town.

I spend the most time on mario artist & talent studio, they are just so much fun to make stuff. Talent studio is basically a very old version of what nintendo are now using on the Mii channel on the Wii.

Yeah, I noticed the golf game was ridiculously expensive. I love SimCity games too so I'm looking forward to having a play with that. Played it on the SNES and was quite surprised how well a console could play it so 64DD SimCity should be fun. The Mario Artist packages also look great fun. Shame about RandNet being closed down though, I'd have been very interested in playing with any online services. I remember when I first saw the 64DD in the Official Nintendo Mag here in the UK, I was so excited though after the SNES CD-ROM cancellation and Satellaview never making it to the UK I wasn't holding out!

Can't wait for it to arrive. Need to wait for the N64 and make sure that's all working OK first. Japanese FZero-X on order too, doesn't matter that my Japanese reading skills are so awful when you've already defeated the game so many times!

64DD might not have a lot of games, but boy are they fun! (if you're a gamer with some degree of taste for something different that is. If you re a sports/shooter/rpg fan, go elsewhere ,64DD is probably not for you ;p )

64DD? Curses, for me that's easier said than done. I'm under the impression that they're somewhat expensive? Well, with the original packaging and stuff that is. I'd love to get one one day...But first I need an actual 64 system.

How much does the clear black model usually go for, anyone know?

And good luck on your import collection too ^^

if you re going to *use* ur DD, even an unboxed one is enough.

the accessories are all cool to have too, including the mouse, capture cart, modem, and microphone.

the games, if they retain their original package , they dont need to be sealed :p

it should sum um to about 600 USD total, excluding the two rare games, (doshin 2 isnt that much fun actually, although Pro Golf Tour isn't bad at all!)

hope you have good luck and enjoyment out of collecting.
I certainly did though after well over a decade of collecting/playing I'm kind of burnt out and taking time off video gaming - still playing odd game here and there but not as much before and only buy stuff when I happen to come across and at the good price... ^__^

I'd say I'm probabl a bit burnt out after nearly 20 years of playing games and still only being 27! The Wii has rekindled my enthusiasm somewhat and I'm hoping that obscure accessories that I wanted in my youth will help some more. I found out my UK N64 last night so when the Jap model turns up I have a suitable PSU for the UK mains supply.

Best get ordering that 64DD and my new games now eh? Shame my PC blew up this morning too, more cost (thank god I bought the Mrs a laptop last year eh?) :)

to be honest I wasn't too impressed with 64DD hence the whole things are now stored away along with couple of N64 consoles I bought at the same time...

Are you prepared to pay for the extra money our AusPost put on anything going out of Australia, mate? ^__^ The thing could potentially cost as much for the shipping alone as for the package

It doesn't matter any more, I have my 64DD on it's way now.

The Royal Mail tried to deliver my N64 today but I was at work, I'm having it redelivered tomorrow, but the best bit is this. Yup, that's my eBay ID, and yup, I won that one and I'm looking forward to receiving it.

As with the Jap N64, I don't know what they're worth, but I know that I don't mind paying that much. I've had similar packages offered to me for twice that amount (over twice in fact) so I'm happy. It has a good selection of games to start me off and I just need to lay my hands on a Japanese version of FZero-X and that'll be me sorted for many many hours I know!

if you are buying 64DD full set it should come with the matching N64... ?
well at least mine came with 64DD, N64 and boxes and boxes of stuff...

No, it's the RandNet Starter Kit that I've bought, and the N64s that seemed to be paired with any 64DDs were the clear black ones. Personally, and this isn't meant as offence towards people who like them, but I find the clear ones quite distasteful, so I deliberately bought a grey unit that actual matches the 64DD colours.
